“Nice people, tired hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Nice helpful front desk staff, but they spend a lot of time apologizing for the facility. Our room was "sorta" clean, but mostly tired and run-down. We were given a space heater because the heater in the room "shuts down after a while." We did move to another room that was marginally better and cleaner.

Bathroom tile was dirty, tub just barely clean. I personally went underneath the bath sink to connect the stopper that wasn't working.

Tucumcari has something like 2,000 hotel rooms. I'd pick another if you want anything other than a quick night's sleep at low cost.

“Cheap room rate, nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

The room rate was cheap, they had ample parking for large vehicles, and the room was acceptable. The bathroom was pretty nasty, though, with gaps in the trim where you could see spiderwebs and the like through them. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired. Warm OJ (YUCK!), no bread left by 8am, apples were the only fruit available and they were all dried out and nasty (made me wonder whether they were intended as a garnish or to eat?!) - really not worth the time it took to walk up to the lobby to see what they had.

The one positive here was the shower. This was a SHOWER. If you weren't ready for it, that sucker would pin you to the far wall of the shower stall. If you aren't awake after that shower, you're dead! A nice way to start the day, even if the rest of the place left you thinking "meh."

All in all, if you're looking for something cheap and available, this might be right for you (we did a walk-up late at night and they had plenty of rooms). They do accept pets, which was what we needed, but if I'd had time to do my homework I would have chosen to stay elsewhere. This has nothing much to recommend it, in my opinion.

“Dirty, just Dirty....oh and Rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2011

Upon arrival it was clear this was not your typical Choice Hotel. If it weren't that it was so late, we would have opted for another. Upon entering our room, that smelled stale or moldy, quick standard check of the beds we found hair, carpet fuzz, toe nail (yes toe nail) and even the impression of the previous tenant in the sheets. On a good note, the beds we're made up very nicely. Visited the Front Desk where "Roger" quickly reported that he "checks every room/bed himself and it can't be dirty". Handed us another key and stated "this is the last one", as if we only had one more chance or else. Ha! Again, we should have left at that point, but was way beyond tired. The replacement room was only slightly better but at least the beds appeared to clean. Bath still had hair in and around, corners we're dirty. Was really disappointed and will be reporting same to Choice, this is not the place to stay when staying at a Choice or any Corporate hotel chain when visiting Tucumcari. Breakfast, was toast and coffee, neither of which we dared try. Left at Sunrise and wont look back. Also note, the Denny's that supposed to be next door (and one of the reasons we selected this hotel) is boarded up/closed/abandoned.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else, keep driving.

“Flat tire and didn't make it to hotel, no mercy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010
2
people found this review helpful

I made reservations thru Expedia for a one-night stay on my way home from taking my daughter to college. About 140 miles from Tucumcari, I got a flat tire. Called the hotel right away, about 7:45 p.m., explained the situation and that I wouldn't be able to make it because I couldn't travel the remaining distance on an undersized spare and it was too late to get a fix on the original tire. Clerk said to call Expedia. As soon as I was checked into a different Choice hotel in Moriarty, NM, called Expedia and they called the hotel on my behalf to check on a refund of my reservation. No go.
Called the hotel myself. No. Was told it had to do with the billing with Choice Hotels.
Called Choice Hotels, no billing on their part.
Called the hotel back on a weekday to talk to a manager. All this time I was very polite. He seemed frustrated that I was trying to pursue a refund of my stay that never happened due to a flat tire.
The moral of the story: if you make a reservation, it's guaranteed and it's after 6:00 p.m., you're paying no matter what happens to you on the way.
