Prepaid via Orbitz more than a month in advance. When I approached the desk clerk, he indicated that I'd have to pay. I ... initially thought that I had online and informed him of that, but he stood his ground arguing that if I booked with Orbitz, I certainly did not pay in advance. OK, so I paid. The stairs right off the lobby had a lean, creaked and were obviously separating from the structure. A call to the local building inspector and/or fire marshal should be in order! The single queen room was VERY small (we now know wy they call it "Microtel"!)...we stumbled over each other just to get around. The bed itself was extremely tiny...no queen size I've ever seen, but comfortable, obviously a new mattress. The TV was mounted high and at an angle, wreaking havoc on our necks! The next morning my curiosity had gotten the better of me - checking online, I had indeed paid in FULL via Orbitz and my online banking confirmed that. I called the nightshift front desk clerk just prior to 7am and was faced with a woman that had never even heard of Orbitz. I was told I'd have to wait until the next clerk came on duty! We waited (ready to hit the road long ago at this point), then proceeded to have to "prove our case" to the clerk for 30mins while I clearly displayed the online Orbitz info, my banking account (with matching Orbitz booking numbers)PLUS, her own computer showed our room as "Prepaid" according to the info from Orbitz. I was told I'd have to contact Orbitz still for my double payment!! After calm arguing for quite a few minutes, phone calls to 3 different managers at home sleeping, they finally decided my information was accurate enough to give me a refund simply for what I was overcharged. I've been in customer service for 18+ years and if a customer gets jacked around that bad, some kind of compensation is offered, but not in this case...I had to argue forever to get what was simply owed!
