“A Colorful Choice in T or C”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

The Pelican Spa is becoming a real force in T or C, now occupying at least three buildings, I think. Every room is colorfully decorated and furnished with vintage furniture and plenty of pictures. We wondered aloud several times just how many thrift stores the owners had to frequent to find all this stuff. My girlfriend wanted to buy a whale motif lamp outright. But, of course, the main reason to stay in T or C is for the hot springs and it's worth noting that only the main building has direct access to the springs and the others require a walk across the street. The cement tubs are perhaps not the most charming way to soak but they do the trick. We usually stay at another spa in T or C (which was booked during this trip), but we were pleased with the Pelican Spa and enjoyed our HUGE room with full kitchen in the Pink Pelican building.

Room Tip: Remember that only the main building has direct access to the spa, although the other building are c...

“Why didn't I stay here first?”

I found out about the Pelican Spa in a brochure I picked up at another hotel. Staff was very helpful and friendly when I called for a reservation. The apartment-style lodging was so much fun - filled with odds and ends of funky, vintage furniture and local art - and so affordable (only abut $5 more than a chain hotel by the highway). The communal areas looked clean and welcoming, though I did not have a chance to use them. The fill-it-yourself mineral baths were an adventure, and quite relaxing after a long day's drive. The location is perfect - there are several cafes and restaurants nearby. Not to name-drop, but if you are a "Lonely Planet"- style traveler then the Pelican Spa is for you!

Room Tip: The spa has multiple buildings, one of which is about a mile from the central building with spa. I...

“The Pelican Brief”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

The Pelican and its friendly staff offer a warm welcome like its soothing healing waters and private tubs. A retreat that laughs at the seriousness of our lives and indulges the passion in each sense. The rooms are like reading a desert menu each tempting with over indulgence in living space, whimsical art., and well thought provoking design.

Though it's a hotel it's feels more like a home all you need is there and plenty of space in its more than ample suites. Then mange mange across the street with best Italian food this side of Italy. The Calamari with green Chile will be the best you ever had and haute cuisine lasagna dish will have you humming oh Sole a Mio!!!

Check out the surprising interesting town museum and buy a bag of local fresh pistachios, and for lunch take a short ride to Big a Burger for a retro route 66 great green Chile cheese burger. Get your camera out as every album cover you bought in the sixties completely cover the walls very hip and fun.

“If you don't mind some adventure”

Overall, I'd stay here again, but it helps to be somewhat flexible and accomodating! Mandarin Suite was quiet, comfortable mattress, clean enough, but "hot water" was barely luke warm. With no phones in the rooms and a conference schedule that did not mesh with open office hours I never got around to complaining about the lack of hot water so I have no idea if it's a permanent problem or could have been fixed. My suite had no dishes, but the one next door had plenty so I borrowed. My air dried sheets and towels were fine. Enjoyed the soaking tubs, but the open hours didn't coincide with my business schedule very well, would have been nice it they were open earlier in the morning or later in the evening.

Room Tip: Mandarin Suite was very quiet, but not in the same building as the soaking tubs.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pelican Spa and enjoyed our stay there. However, and HOWEVER is a large word in this review, when the Spa started submitting charges to my bankcard four months after the fact, I am fairly sure now that however nice it seemed, it wasn't quite worth the financial headaches I am having now. The accountant Sue, who is a wonderful conversationalist on the phone, said that they would be glad to issue a refund if I could prove I was over charged, but going back four months in my financial records for something they are doing wrong does not sit well with me.
Therefore, by all means stay at the spa. It was nice. But pay CASH. Otherwise, spend a lot of time poring over your bank records for months, because more likely than not you might get the same surprise. By the way, according to them, I am not an isolated example. This same thing has happened to $20000 worth of people simply wanting a soak and a relaxed stay. I would never have discovered this if it werent for an inactive bank account I have with Wells Fargo that went into the red, for the amount of a night's stay. Feels like fraud, but I am not going the lengths to prove it. I simply wish to convey this information to anyone who is considering this place. Now I will call the NM Chamber of Commerce to file a complaint. After that, cancel my bank accounts and open new ones. Excellent

I am sid bryan the owner of the pelican spa. There was a long delay in charging the guest for his stay as he said in his review. The staff had swiped his card, but it was not batched by the machine until months later. I and the staff were sorry for this, but we were not aware that the charge had not been automatically processed. He was also right that he was not the only one that. This happened to. We asked that he show us where he had been charged twice and we would be more than happy to refund his money. He said that it would take too much time for him to find his credit card. He then stated all of the things he was going to us. I suggested it woul be quicker to find his bills and that I was sorry. I did not hear from him until he wrote his review. Again aim very sorry. Sid bryan and staff.
