We drove a few hours south of Albuquerque to The Birch Street Retreat to find way more than expected. We stayed in two bedrooms with a cot in one, plus had a kitchenette area with refregerator & microwave for the snacks and sandwich fixins we took for our hungry teens. The minerals baths were great fun, including the dunks in the river. Roger and Ann told us where to hike for rock hounding one day and then led us in a drumming/percussion session one evening that, quite to my surprise, was a unifying experience. We all agreed we want to plan another visit to this great retreat with attentive hosts. They thought of everything we needed before we knew we needed it! Also very reasonable rates...GREAT VALUE

My friend and I were on a road trip through the southwest. I wasn’t sure what day we’d arrive in Truth or Consequences and waited until the last minute to make a reservation. I had underestimated the popularity of Riverbend Hot Springs and when they told me they were booked, I asked for a recommendation-somewhere close since we wanted to use their pools. The Birch Street Retreat was recommended and I went ahead and made a reservation.
The Birch Street Retreat consists of two lovely rooms in the front of Roger and Ann Swanson’s home. There is a shared kitchenette and bathroom with a fabulous river rock shower stocked with quality bath products. Towels and bottled water were provided for the hot springs, as well as discounted soak cards. The room itself was comfortable and roomy and had a nice selection of books and magazines. The kitchenette was equipped with coffee and an assortment of teas. The little touches are what made the Birch Street Retreat so special; after an evening soak we returned to find a package of popcorn sitting in front of the microwave.
The Birch Street Retreat is a serene, comfortable and fun place to stay in a great location. Roger and Ann are kind, thoughtful and hospitable. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend the Birch Street Retreat and hope to make it back there soon myself!

Truth or Consequences is a unique and spiritual place. Luckily, we stayed somewhere that also fit that description. Just a few blocks from Riverbend Hot Springs, owners Ann and Roger Swanson went out of their way to ensure that we had the best possible stay in T or C. Discount tickets to Riverbend as well as all the hospitality we could ask for were included. A kitchenette fully loaded with coffee, tea, snacks, and plenty of post-hot springs soaking drinking water is available for use. The rooms are very clean and lovely, the bed was comfortable (complete with chocolates near the headboard) and free Wi-Fi was included. The newly renovated bathroom contained and the most amazing rustic, stone-tiled shower. On-site massages are also available for purchase (added bonus)!

I just can't say enough great things about this charming place. The owners, Ann and Roger Swanson are wonderful people. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
