If you are traveling in winter and want to count on heat in your room, or shampoo in the bathroom, I would suggest staying somewhere else.
We stayed four nights at a significantly discounted rate that my wife found. Things at the beginning weren't too bad. The room was cold, but the porter assured us he had turned the heat on. When we could not find shampoo, we called and they eventually brought us some. The decorating is over-the-top "Corporate Southwest," but I am sure that some like it. By the middle of the night (It's January, right?) we realize the heat is not on, after hours of fitful sleep. I get it turned on and we are comfy.
The second night the heat works. However, when I try to use the gas fireplace, it turns out to be on a timer with a loud clicker built in, like on some bathroom fans - not exactly great for romance.
When I try to order room service, I learn that the phone is not programmed right. Eventually I learn that you can find the front desk by dialing housekeeping, the valet by calling the front desk, etc.. They replace the phone and fix the problem. Did I mention that it takes over five minutes to get hot water in the taps?
Minor irritations so far. Late in the night on the third night we realize that the heat has stopped working whatsoever - it has just been blowing cold air for hours. We get up bundled in blankets and call the front desk. They assure us that the maintenance guys will be right out. We wait for nearly an hour before calling again. Eventually they show up. They tell us that they will need to service the heat pump. Apparently their hard water causes them to need to be serviced regularly, but they don't keep up with it. The guy says "I don't think we have ever serviced the unit in this room!" We are told to come back hours later, only to find out that it is not fixable and we have to move to another room.
The next room is nice and the hotel brings us wine and cheese to cheer us up, which we appreciate (they gave us a small discount too). No shampoo again, and it still takes forever to get hot water, no remote for the TV, and our requests for shampoo and a remote are totally ignored, but we are toughened up now! (We learned from the maintenance guys that the circulation pump has been broken for weeks, something the front desk remains blissfully unaware of.)
To their credit, the staff is polite and well-intended, if not always competent. The hot tub and swimming pool are fabulous. But with the current management and lack of maintenance I would not count on this place to keep you warm and happy.
