My husband and I drove up from Santa Fe for a day-trip in Taos. We parked near the Plaza and walked through the picturesque Old Town to the Harwood Museum. The museum has a great mix of classical New Mexico paintings and wood carvings; more famous artwork from The Taos Modern Painters (especially the stunningly unique Agnes Martin room!); and even multiple galleries for contemporary art. We spent about an hour and a half enjoying the artwork and beautiful museum spaces, and then we were ready for lunch! It is literally a two-minute walk from the Harwood Museum to Antonio's Restaurant (back towards the Plaza), where we feasted on amazing traditional Mexican cuisine! After lunch, we walked around the Plaza, exploring the local shops and coffee houses. We ended our day-trip with a nice circle drive through town and out to the Taos Gorge Bridge, before heading back to Santa Fe. Art, food, shopping, beautiful New Mexico landscapes... our Taos day-trip was PERFECT!!!
And I have to say that the Harwood Museum was the perfect jumping off point for our lovely day in Taos. The museum, its staff and its artwork really set the creative tone for the rest of our perfect day, and gave us a beautiful introduction to the artistic Taos culture.

Thanks Carly! That sounds like the perfect Taos day to us. Be sure to come back to check out the exhibition "Agnes Martin: Before the Grid," on view February 25-June 17. It's a rare chance to see the artist's early work. See you at the Harwood!
