“We love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Wed travel regularly from Colorado to far-south New Mexico and we usually spend a night in Taos along the way. We discovered Dona Luz several years ago and have made it our regular hotel in Taos. A simple B&B, not a super-fancy deluxe hotel. Very accommodating. Very clean. Very friendly. Constantly working to improve. Right in the heart of town. Great atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more. Plus, very important, they take our dog.

Room Tip: Rooms are very eclectic. Check the website to pick one you like.

Paco and his team are the best! We have never felt so at home while on vacation. La Dona Luz' location is within walking distance to all the best spots in Taos, like the town plaza and the best restaurant in town "Graham's Grille". This town is really, really small, so a short drive is all that is required to any other destinations including the Taos Ski Valley. The room was so charming and spacious. The stairs may be a challenge for some, but since we already live in a two story house we had no problems. The fireplace kept us warm through out our winter stay. Breakfast was superb, and we made many new friends while staying here. We really felt like family not guest. We won't forget this place on our next visit.

Room Tip: The Santiago Room. Great view of the mountains from here.

“An enjoyable Taos place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We have been staying here for many years and have watched the place evolve and change. It is a delightful place to stay, typically Taos, with a great deal of history. Don't come here unless you want an unusual and different place that is not a chain motel. The rooms are all unique. One of the nicest things is that it is only a block from the plaza so you don't have to drive and try and park in Taos congestion. Its prices are moderate by Taos standards: you can pay a lot more for a lot less. The Rainbow Room is a wonderful multi-level suite with its own hot tub and kitchenette that is suitable for longer stays or if you need a place to work. Breakfast is very nice: waffles, cereal, breads, yoghurt. There are working fireplaces in many of the rooms.

Room Tip: Every room is different: use the web site to make your choice.

“Terrific B&B with best view of Taos!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We have stayed at this B&B almost a dozen times now.... Taos is one of our favorite places and I have stayed at Laughing Horse Inn and one of the local hotels. While I liked the charm of Laughing Horse its a drive to the heart of Taos. La Dona Luz has the charm and is in the heart of the city. We have stayed in several rooms but the one we try to frequent most is the Rainbow Room because of the private hot tub on the roof which is the tallest building in Taos. Paco the owner is a pleasant man who does everything he can to make your stay comfortable. He enjoys the camaraderie in the morning, talking with the guests. While the breakfast could stand more emphasis, Paco's friendship, coffee, and basics make up for it. While I am always hoping for the most comfortable bed in town, this one is not the best I've ever had, but the ambiance can make up for so much!

Room Tip: Most romantic - Rainbow Room!

“A cozy, well-located, budget option!”

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of December and had a lot of fun. We booked the 'La Luz' room because of the amazing price, and I would definitely go back there. There are a lot of stairs (made worse by the altitude!) but there's a cute little couch, coffee table, and desk, as well as a full bed, fridge, and microwave. Bathroom is average sized and very clean. The big problem with this room, though, is that there's no door! At the top of the stairs are essentially large shutters: this means that you can hear everything below (and everyone below can hear you), and also that if people decide to take a little trip up the stairs they can see into the room. We had to tell people we were up there 3 times in as many days. This problem could be solved by a sign on the staircase and we suggested that when we left. I would still stay in this room again due to the price, but you should know that there's definitely a lack of privacy.

The inn itself was lovely. Great location in the center of town, cozy interior, and good breakfast, as well as friendly staff!

Thank you for your review and kind words about our place!
Your timing was excellent as I just finished installing a beautiful hand-made, hand-carved custom door in the room you stayed in. It took almost a year for a local woodworker to finish it……life moves at a slower pace in Taos! As you noted, the old double doors, while beautifully made and quite lovely with willow branches in place of solid panels, did not block noise. They will now serve as closet doors. Check out the photos on our facebook page.

As this room is on the third floor, I also have plans to take even more advantage of the incredible mountain views. Stay tuned!

All our rooms feature the architectural details for which Taos is well known and are thematically decorated with fine art and regional treasures.

Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to hosting your future visits!
Paco
