“Oversized room, undersized bath, under powered airconditioning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Despite all the good reviews for El Pueblo Lodge from TripAdvisor, this is one property that did not meet expectations.

We were given a room on the second floor that was huge, but was cooled with a tiny box window airconditioner. It was summer and the room was hot. It never cooled down. We sweated our way through the night.

In the middle of the night, I was so hot, I threw all the doors and windows open and that made me feel insecure for the lack of security. So I never got a good night's sleep. But I did get cooler.

The light at the room door was spoilt, however, I didn't make a fuss about it.

A call to the front desk and the chap said, yes, they know about the inadequate airconditioning, and they would try and find a fan. However, I never got a call back about that.

The bathroom, for a room that large was clean, but underwhelmingly small.

There are good reviews about the breakfast, but it is nothing to shout home about. Yes, they use real cutlery, not styrofoam cups and plates and plastic fork and spoons, but as for variety and options, they were not any more than what is offered in many good motel chains.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask about adequate airconditioning or be prepared to sweat the night away.

“big enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

If you base your stay on room then this is the place for you. the floor is horrible and the bed mediocre. It did have a fully closed front room from the bedroom complete with a Murphy Queen bed (worse than the main bed). It had that old room musk that I just can't stand. the Fire Place helps if you use it like we did.
Old fixtures that looked dated. For the price and 2+ kids (perhaps animals) it is great. People without kids (or tiny ones) should look elsewhere.

“Place has feeling, large rooms, friendly, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

There are a limited selection of accommodations in Taos. You can choose from corporate chains or independent lodgings. El Pueblo is a non-corporate property with a family feel. Staff is helpful and doesn’t make you feel like an outsider. I chose a fireplace room. Rooms are very large, with the ground floor rooms having a back door and a front door with screen door for use in warmer months. Front door opens onto a small patio with chairs and a table. Upstairs rooms have balconies. King bed was nice and firm. Room had a small fridge and the heater near the bathroom is a lifesaver after coming out of the shower. Full cable TV. I enjoyed waking up early in the quiet and walking over to the lobby for breakfast. You can smell the wood fires burning and the complimentary breakfast was nice. Juice, coffee, yogurt, cereal, bagels, etc. Great place for a winter snuggle!!

Room Tip: Get a fireplace room if you stay here during cooler or cold weather!

“Great place to stay after a day of skiing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here for one night during a quick Taos ski getaway. It was perfect for us. Loved the cookie platter at the front desk at check-in, along with coffee and hot cocoa always available. The breakfast buffet was a good way to start our day. The outdoor hottub was really hot and a great way to unwind after a long day of skiing. Our room was large and comfortable- having a fireplace was a special touch. They provided firestarter and a bundle of wood.

Room Tip: Try to get an end room with a fireplace.

“Great hotel for those on a budget!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Me and some girlfriends stayed here while we were in Taos snowboarding. The rooms were very clean and spacious (which is saying a lot...four girls with tons of bags plus boarding gear). Definitely an older hotel but has been kept up well. The staff is very friendly and always gave us great recommendations on places to eat, shopping, and other stuff to do in town. It's a 10 minute walk from downtown which is a plus! It's great for people on a budget who are looking for a deal and just want a decent place to stay.
