We were in South Africa, based in Johannesburg, with plans to do a photo safari in Sabi Sands. Unfortunately the day before heading to Sabi Sands the cyclone hit Kruger. We were told that bridges had been washed out and we would not be able to get to our lodge. We scrambled and were able to get last minute accommodations at Impodimo. What a happy accident! The place is incredible! We stayed with our two boys in what used to be the shareholders unit. It consisted of two large bedrooms with a huge dining and living room between the bedrooms. The decks were large and had great views of the watering hole. The very private outdoor showers also had views of the animals at the watering hole. As for sightings on our game drives - nothing less than wonderful. We saw all five of the big five in one day! We went on five drives and each one got better! We had originally planned to go to Kruger because we wanted to see a leopard. Well, not only did we see a leopard, we were within ten feet of it in the daylight! Not lost in our stay was the hospitality of the staff. This is not a large resort, but rather an intimate retreat where they knew all of our names by the time we ordered our dinner for the first night!! I have been fortunate to have stayed at some great places, but Impodimo will always be amongst my favorites!
