“Very high quality, yet affordable South African safaris”

Let me begin with a warning: The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge has evolved into my family's favourite resort for game viewing and being pampered. In the Greater Krugerpark area there are many private game reserves with their safari lodges. The tric is that the animals can freely roam in and out of the private reserves from or into the entire Kruger National Park. Mohlabetsi, in the York or Balule Private Reserve, therefore sees animals that live locally to that reserve, as well as animals that roam out of and into the KNP.

These private safari lodges offer all ranges of luxury treatment, prices vary accordingly. Mohlabetsi is medium priced, great value for money and with game viewing & pampering offerings well above average. In fact, their rangers & trackers are very experienced and knowledgeable, so that our early morning and late afternoon safaris were well-balanced and adequately packed with suspense, spectacle and relaxation. Meals are all included, very well cooked, with a pleasant, sometimes outright surprising variation of the menus and an ambiance befitting the safari magic.

We stayed in one of the rondavels, offering accommodation for two. Even a pseudo bush shower experience is included, much adding to the couleur locale, as do the African hut style rondavels themselves. Central point is a vast lawn overlooking a waterhole and some low bush, where several groups of animals might turn up and be sighted during the day.

Moderation is provided, all staff are very attentive and friendly. Monkeys, mongoose and other smaller animals can be found all over the place at any time.

Mohlabetsi is therefore very much recommended as a private safari lodge offering first class hospitality, services and game viewing at very reasonable prices. I am afraid we will continue to return regularly ...

“Great Experience”

This is right in the middle of the Kruger National Park. This is one experience I shall cherish for the rest of my life.

You get a feeling of being surrounded by wildlife. The huts which are actually equipped with all the modern amenities are outstanding. Once you are inside, you get a feel of being in any other hotel room. The open air shower gives you a feeling of bathing in the middle of the jungle.

The staff was excellent. The rangers know their job very well and we had a great time on the game drives.

The food was excellent too.

A must visit if you are going to Kruger.

“Very good place to stay.”

We enjoyed Mohlabetsi very much as my husband and I stayed there last year. The game drives were tremendous and Solie our guide did a wonderful job. We spotted all of the Big Five as well as numerous other animals and plants. The trackers are so enthusiastic; you can tell they have such a great passion for their job, and they bent over backwards to find the animals for us so we could get our photographs.
Our rondawel was simply but nicely decorated, and clean and comfortable with outside showers (felt like I was bathing in paradise). However, for four star accommodation, I still thought it was a little basic in some ways although at the same time, we were not expecting five star luxury.
The food was generally good, although I think our hosts should have kept away from the barbecue that night; the meat was very tough once it arrived on our plates.
I say leave all the cooking to the African ladies who worked so hard to cook and clean for us guests. They prepared some wonderful food for us, especially on the last evening. I wish I had asked for the recipe, truly delicious. Overall we had a very positive experience - great value for money.

Room Tip: Mohlabetsi has only 6 rondawels giving this lodge a smaller, more intimate atmosphere. The rondawel...

My wife and I loved the place, the food the guides, the room etc. Neat having an outside shower. Very comfortable bed. Very good food. Excellent friendly informative guides. Well worth visting. This place is a fabulous place if you dont have an inclination for a long game drive. We saw 4 of the big 5 in 4 drives.

Everything here was perfect from the friendly arrival, the good food, the fact we saw the Big 5 over two days courtesy of some fabulous tracking. A wonderful experience!
