“Beds were great, 3rd floor no stairs, room adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2011

Ok, so I made reservations at this hotel after reading many reviews. I can say that the beds were amazing! We are smokers, so of course we had to stay on the third floor (non-smoking floor), however there was no elevator. My husband is older, so the stairs were quite a chore. So we get to our room to find out that there isn't an ashtray, when we stopped by the office later on in the evening after going out, they told my husband that we were in a non-smoking room and wouldn't give him an ashtray. I promptly went in and told the lady on duty (she was the owner along with her husband) that we were walking up 3 flights of stairs because that is where we had to stay due to the fact that I wanted a smoking room. After a little bit, she finally relented and gave me an ashtray. The next night, I went to get an ice bucket as our room didn't have one, and the man (an employee, not the owner) had to search the office, then went into like 3 different rooms, before he was able to locate an ice bucket. He was very pleasant and apologetic about it. When going downstairs for juice on our last morning, I found that the owner (man) was there to help with anything I needed. They had waffles, cereal, juice and milk. Not really sure what else, as I was only going for juice. The wall border in the bathroom was peelong quite a bit, but otherwise, it was ok. Would I stay here again? Yea probably....will definitly consider a non-smoking room next time...I can always step outside to smoke.

“BARGAIN STAY IN AN EXPENSIVE AREA”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

this is an older building and a bit freyed around the edges. the office people are nice and helpful. this being off season they were not real busy, so things were very quiet. at about $40 plus tax for midweek, it was a bargain.

“Disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

Upon entering our room at check-in, it appeared that someone had been lying on the beds as the bedspreads were crumpled and not pulled tightly and neat like hotel beds usually appear. That, in and of itself, was not the worse thing in the world. However, we noticed the carpets were dirty and quite obviously had not been vacuumed. What we noticed next was completely disgusting and unbelievable. There was dried urine in and on our bathroom sink, as well as in the floor next to the toilet. The toilet itself had a ring of mildew in the bowl. Having owned a custodial business, we know what urine looks like. We immediately brought it to the attention of the owner (who said he would clean it himself) to be cleaned and left for dinner. When we returned, the sink and toilet bowl had been cleaned but not the floor. I went back to the front desk to request we not be charged for the room. The owner and his wife both came back to clean it and insisted the bright yellow urine was COFFEE!!! He lifted the toilet tank and not realizing I saw, he quickly put it back down. (When they left, I looked again for myself.) After some discussion, he agreed to give us a discount on the room because he valued customers more than money and gave us a mere $10.00 off. After returning from dinner and finding urine still in the floor, I took pictures with my phone and will post them here for all of you to see. It must seem I'm making this up. I wish I were. I should point out that we didn't leave this hotel and stay elsewhere because every hotel in town was booked up due to the local festivities of this particular weekend. Needless to say we will not stay at this hotel again. So disgusting and appalling!!!! Oh, and as we were checking out, another guest was complaining about his room. No surprise, sadly.

“You could do worse I suppose, but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2010

Toilet handle chain/flapper was broken when we arrived. Impossible to flush. Hard to believe someone had just cleaned it and didn't notice. They sent someone to fix it, but not properly. It was still very hard to flush. Second day, toilet had a "sanitized" wrapper around it, but there was a big hair (not mine!) on the seat when I opened it. Rooms are tiny by today's standards. A/C-Heater unit is right next to the desk, so the air is blowing in your face while you are trying to talk on the phone. Noise from upstairs room was horrible...worst I've ever experienced in a motel. At first we thought maybe kids were jumping on the beds, but that was not the case. This a very old building and every time the guests upstairs would simply walk across the floor, our room would literally shake (you could see items on the dresser moving...I'm not kidding!). Hair dryer and/or A/C outlet was intermittently broken. It would work about 15 seconds, then shut off. I could sometimes get it to work by resetting the outlet breaker multiple times, but not always. The front desk insisted that they fixed it, but they didn't. The alarm clock was plugged into an outlet that was connected to a wall switch, so I thought the clock was broken at first. I kept having to reset it til I realized what was going on...what a pain. On the third night, my key card stopped working. I told them at the front desk and they argued with me that I was inserting it wrong. I wasn't...I'd already been there 3 nights and had already mastered the key card ;) Eventually the person who claimed to be the owner started getting an attitude with me. Didn't appreciate that at all. All my complaints/problems were legitimate. Never once got an apology either. Also, I asked the front desk if I could check out a day early without penalty. I was told they "could not do anything to help me since I reserved online" and to "take it up with them". So I called Super 8's main phone and they were very helpful and assured me that if I checked out a day early, I would not be charged since I stayed at least one night. Also note, the lobby area is very cramped for a breakfast area. It's almost not even practical. No where to sit, plus it got dirty very fast...garbage can was overflowing right beneath the food bar...ugh. Next time, I'll make sure I stay at the nice, new clean Motel 6 with pool/hot tub just down the street. I could have gotten 2 Queen suite with sofa area for the same price if I had only reserved 2 days earlier! I waited too late and all their rooms were gone though...so I got stuck at the not-so-Super 8 :(
