“old and rundown”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

Spacious rooms, but very old and worn furnishings, mattresses were very cheap with paper -thin mattress pads. Indoor pool was warm and fun for the kids. View was nice, location is very close to ski run road. Continental breakfast was about as minimalist as you will ever find. A few low quality packaged pastries and some packets of wal mart instant oatmeal. Also what I think was grape drink. The room was so worn out I don't think we would stay here again, even though the price was very low.

“Suprisingly nice”

We were given a nice, large room. It had two beds and a couch that had a fold out bed. There was lots of space in the room, the beds were comfortable, and the service was exactly as it should be. We had family in another room, and they were able to come hang out in our room because there was so much room.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

When I was a child I used to ride by this hotel and think that I wanted to stay there. I finally did, and I was extremely disappointed. The room was relatively clean, but everything else about the hotel was a let-down. The heated indoor pool that was advertised turned out to be unheated. My wife and I wanted to go swimming, though, so we used the net to skim all of the bugs off of the surface of the water, then we got in. The water was downright cold and I couldn't get in above my knees. The jacuzzi was shut down for some unknown reason. The carpet in the hallways was worn out. I asked for a room with a view and got a room with a view... of the trees directly outside the window. Through the branches I could sometimes see the mountain if the wind blew just the right way, but there really was no view. The worst part was the "free continental breakfast". They had a toaster, three loaves of bread, and some toast and jelly. They didn't even have cold cereal and milk! The bread was still in the bags, so you were expected to open up the bag, stick your hand in to get some bread, and then close up the bag. I could only wonder how many dirty hands had been in the bag before mine, so I just decided to skip the "free continental breakfast" and go get an Egg McMuffin.

“There are better places to stay in beautiful Ruidoso than this worn & tired propoerty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

This property is worn and tired. It needs repainting outside and in, carpets worn bare in spots.
The lighting in the room was extremely dim. It was hard to tell if the room was clean or not. Bedspread ripped on one bed. Towels very thin.

The telephone in the room was broken, with a paper sign on it that they were waiting for a part for the phone system. Most people use their cell phones now, but you couldn't call the front desk. There is free wi-fi here, but only in the lobby. There are plenty of other spots to stay at in beautiful Ruidoso.

I would say the Swiss Chalet Inn could use a complete renovation, but due to its funky, outdated design, it might be a tear down. The location it's in is beautiful. It could use a nice building on it.

“A classic old lady - beyond her prime”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

We picked the Swiss Chalet for two nights because they accepted pets, and the descriptions sounded good. However, we were disappointed in the stay. We had a family room, which was very large with a sofa, so it had plenty of room, and the room was very clean. However, the beds were so high, it was uncomfortable getting in and out, and the mattress was so hard we both had backaches in the morning. There was no telephone service when we were there - they apparently have an old analog system and had trouble getting repair parts. The outside of the hotel was dirty and not well maintained. The neighbors above us were running around the room at 3:00 am, and we could not contact the front desk. Not a pleasant stay, and like all places in Ruidoso, it seemed over-priced.
