“A very enjoyable stay”

We decided on Thursday to travel to Ruidoso on Friday. I called The Lodge at Sierra Blanca and they had plenty of availability to accommodate our last minute travel plans.
The Lodge was easy to find and was beautiful on the outside, with a surrounding golf course. The resort is also located next to the convention center.
Our room was nice and clean. There were signs of some wear but definately not a show stopper. The beds are comfortable and we had a great view of the back patio and golf course. At night a fire would be built in the middle of the courtyard so we had that as our nighttime view.
The hotel offers a complimentary cooked to order breakfast (very similar to the Embassy Suites breakfast) and the dining area has large pictureesque windows to view the golf course and the mountains.
The indoor pool / hot tub area was clean with large windows / doors to view the back patio / mountains while you are swimming or sitting in the hot tub. The ceiling in the pool room had some bubbles in, which could mean some damage at some time, but i didn't see how it affected the pool - at this time. The paint job in that room was not great, but again, didn't affect our stay or what I thought overall of the property.
This is not a large property (3 floors) and is well maintained. The resort does not have a restaurant but is also not far from dining establishments.
Plenty of deer spotted near the resort - very enjoyable to watch wildlife in their natural habitat.
If I had to say anything negative about this establishment is that not all of the front desk staff were friendly. It is something that stood out, but it wouldn't prevent me from staying here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the property. a better view than the front, which would be the p...

“Our favorite place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We come to Ruidoso every winter and stay here every time. A bit on the pricy side but we get what we pay for. Breakfast is outstanding.

“Better than expected”

While I can't agree with some of The Lodge's positioning as a "luxury" property, the rooms are very nice, clean and well maintained (especially considering that Ruidoso is at heart a ski town). The beds/bedding were very good, and the public areas are very ample and nicely appointed. I found the staff to be relatively friendly and responsive. The setting is very nice and set back from the road.

The indoor pool is adequate, with a very large hot tub/pool.

Opportunities:
-The hotel is stick (wood) construction, so you can hear people walking above.
-Poor quality terry
-The complimentary breakfast offers hot items, but the quality was poor- rubber eggs, sausage that didn't seem to be 100% meat, and tasteless, under-cooked hashbrowns. On the positive side, the breakfast staff was very friendly and attentive.
-Bar services are very limited, starting around 5 and closing at 9 (even on a full house).
-Poor in-room lighting. Our room appeared to be missing at least one light fixture.

All hotels have areas for improvement, but I found this property to be an excellent choice choice and would return again.

Room Tip: Suites have central air while standard rooms have window units. Suites also have kitchen facilities...

“Beautiful, Friendly and will stay again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Not sure what others expect out of this hotel, but all the staff is friendly, the Lodge is beautiful and set in a beautiful surrounding. Any small issues we have are resolved immediately. It may be a little farther than you want to stay from downtown, but it is worth it. We stay comfortably, but don't spend all day in our rooms. This is an active community and we get out and enjoy it. Breakfast buffet is a bonus, except when they don't have the omlette station open. We will stay again. Would like to see another option then the pull out sofa, or maybe a new mattress for them.

Room Tip: If anyone is planning on sleeping on the sofa bed, be sure they are the little ones that can handle...

“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I purchased (2) two night package through Groupon. Looking at their website and reading some of the reviews, I was leery of staying, but was a great deal through Groupon..So I booked the rooms. I wanted to check with the General Manager about some of the negative comments I had read, but in 3 weeks of leaving messages, never heard back from him. We arrived to be greeted to a friendly receptionist, but it went downhill from there. For that size of an establishment, there were only (2) baggage carts, the business center was merely a table with a slow computer right next to the entrance. Our stay was in late November, so every time the doors opened a cold blast of cold air would filter in. For whatever reason, all weekend we attempted to reach the front desk by selecting "0" but could never be connected. We actually called the direct number and finally was answered. We requested extra towels and a blanket, the receptionist simply said she couldn't bring them up, that she was the only one available. We had to get out of bed and get them ourselves. Our rooms were never cleaned, not even the trash was emptied. After I asked at check out why this may have happened the manager in charge said that they do not make beds if there are items on the bed. That the staff did not want to be responsible for moving things. Simply Ludacris. Now, let's talk about that famous breakfast. (1st morning) The fruit was frozen - the kind you get from a package, Pancakes were cold - also the frozen kind. The biscuits came out of the microwave, I saw her touch them with her hand and say "Yea they're warm, after on my plate discovered they were still cold and partially frozen in the middle. Out of O.J. AND no bacon or yogurt. After asking if I could get an omelet, the cook told me that the main boss told him not to make them, because if he would do it for one then he would have to make them for others. (2nd morning) Not any better. Got there at 8:25ish No fruit, No Yogurt, Hashbrown were cold, pancakes were overcooked from the microwave and sausage was tough and over cooked. This breakfast was awful, the manager was talking to the cook and said "Well I can run to the store and pick up some yogurt if you think it would help" REALLY! I mean the management knows that they are completely booked weekend in advance, why not prepare for it.- It's not like all of a sudden they discovered that the hotel is completely booked. Very frustrating and disappointed as this trip was a gift to my family. If it weren't for the other activities like shopping, horseback riding in the snow and the scenery, this would have been an absolutely horrible experience. I'd like to add that the scenery from our room was nice, the salsa at breakfast was good (just wished we had something to put it on.), the fireplace seating area in the lobby was nice, the Tia Chi class we took was fun and basically that was it. Will not stay there again and will not be recommending it to anyone else. I left a message at check out with the manager to have the general manager call me. We'll see if I get a call.
