“Beautiful, Friendly and will stay again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Not sure what others expect out of this hotel, but all the staff is friendly, the Lodge is beautiful and set in a beautiful surrounding. Any small issues we have are resolved immediately. It may be a little farther than you want to stay from downtown, but it is worth it. We stay comfortably, but don't spend all day in our rooms. This is an active community and we get out and enjoy it. Breakfast buffet is a bonus, except when they don't have the omlette station open. We will stay again. Would like to see another option then the pull out sofa, or maybe a new mattress for them.

Room Tip: If anyone is planning on sleeping on the sofa bed, be sure they are the little ones that can handle...

“Very disappointed”

I purchased (2) two night package through Groupon. Looking at their website and reading some of the reviews, I was leery of staying, but was a great deal through Groupon..So I booked the rooms. I wanted to check with the General Manager about some of the negative comments I had read, but in 3 weeks of leaving messages, never heard back from him. We arrived to be greeted to a friendly receptionist, but it went downhill from there. For that size of an establishment, there were only (2) baggage carts, the business center was merely a table with a slow computer right next to the entrance. Our stay was in late November, so every time the doors opened a cold blast of cold air would filter in. For whatever reason, all weekend we attempted to reach the front desk by selecting "0" but could never be connected. We actually called the direct number and finally was answered. We requested extra towels and a blanket, the receptionist simply said she couldn't bring them up, that she was the only one available. We had to get out of bed and get them ourselves. Our rooms were never cleaned, not even the trash was emptied. After I asked at check out why this may have happened the manager in charge said that they do not make beds if there are items on the bed. That the staff did not want to be responsible for moving things. Simply Ludacris. Now, let's talk about that famous breakfast. (1st morning) The fruit was frozen - the kind you get from a package, Pancakes were cold - also the frozen kind. The biscuits came out of the microwave, I saw her touch them with her hand and say "Yea they're warm, after on my plate discovered they were still cold and partially frozen in the middle. Out of O.J. AND no bacon or yogurt. After asking if I could get an omelet, the cook told me that the main boss told him not to make them, because if he would do it for one then he would have to make them for others. (2nd morning) Not any better. Got there at 8:25ish No fruit, No Yogurt, Hashbrown were cold, pancakes were overcooked from the microwave and sausage was tough and over cooked. This breakfast was awful, the manager was talking to the cook and said "Well I can run to the store and pick up some yogurt if you think it would help" REALLY! I mean the management knows that they are completely booked weekend in advance, why not prepare for it.- It's not like all of a sudden they discovered that the hotel is completely booked. Very frustrating and disappointed as this trip was a gift to my family. If it weren't for the other activities like shopping, horseback riding in the snow and the scenery, this would have been an absolutely horrible experience. I'd like to add that the scenery from our room was nice, the salsa at breakfast was good (just wished we had something to put it on.), the fireplace seating area in the lobby was nice, the Tia Chi class we took was fun and basically that was it. Will not stay there again and will not be recommending it to anyone else. I left a message at check out with the manager to have the general manager call me. We'll see if I get a call.

“We'll try another place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

My husband & I recently stayed at The Lodge in a king suite which consisted of 2 rooms (living area & kitchenette) and bedroom plus adjacent bath. It was definitely one of the smallest, most cramped spaces we've stayed in that qualifies as a 2 room suite. There was a clearance of perhaps 6 inches between the end of the king bed and the chest on which the bedroom tv was located. There was perhaps 18 inches from the side of the bed to the window on the exterior wall. There was room, however, for a luggage stand to be placed in one corner for a large suitcase. Although there WERE 2 TV'S in the suite, neither were flat screens but rather the old cathode tube tv's. The sound was incredibly poor on the tv in the living area and we had to turn the sound on the tv in the bedroom up just to hear the tv in the living area!
The bathroom consists of a small area with a hot tub/combination shower plus the toilet with the very small lavatory immediately outside the bathroom. There were NO towel racks in the small lavatory area, so one had to place the handtowel on the small lavatory counter. (It would be so simple just to add a towel rack!). The shower was a hot tub combo. If someone in your party has difficulty climbing into a hot tub, this is not the place for you as there is no other accommodation (at least in the king suite). I suggest you call and make specific inquiries about the tub/shower arrangement in a room you are interested in booking if this is a concern.

The furniture had not been dusted and was visibly dirty in addition to the kitchen floor appearing to be dirty. Housekeeping is an issue.

I noticed in a 2009 review that someone commented that the SPA in the pool area was down for maintenance. Well in November 2011, it's down again for maintenance and remained that way during our 2 day stay. The area was blocked off with yellow barrier tape.

The view of the mountains and the golf course outside our windows was beautiful. The front desk clerk had gone to the effort to assign us a room on the upper level with a view as per our request.

Overall the decor is very dark. The sofa is dark brown adding to the suite's darkness and the only accompanying side chair was orange with very worn upholstery.

When we requested extra pillows (the pillows on the bed were pretty flat) and an extra blanket, the front desk clerk brought them right away. Although she had limited assistance, she was very nice and accommodating.

The free breakfast buffet was acceptable with the cook-to- order eggs, by far the best, although the chef needs more help. Apparently, he had the responsibility of keeping all the food on the steam table also supplied. The bacon was cold, unless you happened to be there when he took the new pan out to replace the empty pan and the hash browns were always cold. The steam table simply was not keeping food warm. There was an attendant in the main dining area, cleaning off tables so that there were tables for the newly arriving guests to sit down. The view from the dining room of the gold course was very attractive.

Hopefully, when we return to Ruidiso, we can find another place that does not have as many problems.

“A Pleasant Surprise”

In town for a conference, we stayed at The Lodge at Sierra Blanca due to its close proximity to the convention center...short walk across the parking lot. Part of our group stayed in a standard room, which seemed nice enough but not exceptional for the price. We upgraded, for a nominal fee (perhaps because it was a last-minute change?) to the two-bedroom suite and were all quite impressed. Large living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Fireplace in the master bedroom, which had a wonderfully comfortable king-size bed. French doors opening onto a large lawn. Don't know that I would have wanted a massage, all of the "chair" variety in a semi-pulbic area just off the main lobby. Built next to a golf course and dog park, with nice views of lots of pine trees. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Would consider visiting again for a weekend of golf.

Room Tip: The upgrade for our group to a two bedroom suite was well worth the cost difference.
