Given the choice of staying here or continuing on to either Las Vegas, NM or Santa Fe and needing to pull off the road and get some rest, this Motel 6 seemed to be the choice to make. The price is a bit on the high side (about $37 with tax and discount) for a rural town location, but less than Santa Fe for sure. So I pulled off and checked in for a night's sleep.
The front desk clerk was friendly and helpful. The motel is an older Motel 6, so the architecture is not cookie cutter straight rectangle - some rooms are inset, some jut out a bit from the rest of them. Easy enough to find my room, though.
Room: older style CRT tube television with standard Motel 6 channel lineup (including ESPN and HBO), carpet, real tub (no shower stall cubicle). Individually controlled heating/air conditioning units for each room. Older style Motel 6 room accommodations. Rooms have yet to get the most recent remodeling updates, but everything worked well. Frankly, I prefer the tub versus the shower cubicle, and the television worked just fine, so it didn't matter to me. No problems, everything worked fine.
A microwave was in the lobby for guest use - a real plus if you know you will stay here in advance. A plus period, actually. It's rare for any Motel 6 location to offer a community microwave. Another small town touch to this Motel 6 you won't find in nonrural locations.
The parking lot is concrete, and is cracking and becoming uneven in some spots. Also, where I parked is where stormwater runs off, so the surface is not level. if keeping your balance while walking in the parking area is important, be aware of my tip to you here.
Travelers staying here during my visit were from all over the United States and Canada, so the safety factor was excellent. No long term stays of drunken/drugging undesirables here that I could see.
