This was our 2nd visit to the Plaza. For my wife's birthday we rode AMTRAK from Albuquerque through the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains to historic Las Vegas--once the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco. The Plaza sent a car to pick us up at the historic train station. The Plaza was recently renovated to make it a top notch hotel while maintaining its history and charm from when it was built in 1882. Our beautiful, large room with luxurious king size bed and flat screen TV looked down on the plaza which is surrounded by vintage late 1800s buildings, including several great antique stores. We enjoyed the great restaurant and the hospitality. We walked our feet off looking at the historic homes, buildings, and one of 10 remaining Carnegie Libraries in the U.S. Our only disappointment was that we were not visited by the Plaza's resident ghost. Our host gave us a ride back to the AMTRAK station when we reluctantly had to depart. Visit the Plaza and Las Vegas, NM for a great and break and to enjoy some history. The people of Las Vegas are friendly and welcoming to tourists, just like all New Mexicans.
