“A Gem of a Hotel on the Square in historic Las Vegas, NM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

This was our 2nd visit to the Plaza. For my wife's birthday we rode AMTRAK from Albuquerque through the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains to historic Las Vegas--once the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco. The Plaza sent a car to pick us up at the historic train station. The Plaza was recently renovated to make it a top notch hotel while maintaining its history and charm from when it was built in 1882. Our beautiful, large room with luxurious king size bed and flat screen TV looked down on the plaza which is surrounded by vintage late 1800s buildings, including several great antique stores. We enjoyed the great restaurant and the hospitality. We walked our feet off looking at the historic homes, buildings, and one of 10 remaining Carnegie Libraries in the U.S. Our only disappointment was that we were not visited by the Plaza's resident ghost. Our host gave us a ride back to the AMTRAK station when we reluctantly had to depart. Visit the Plaza and Las Vegas, NM for a great and break and to enjoy some history. The people of Las Vegas are friendly and welcoming to tourists, just like all New Mexicans.

Room Tip: No swimming pool, but the city has one. Ask for a room overlooking the plaza.

“Historic Gem in old Las Vegas, NM”

Old Las Vegas is a pretty town in the middle of the dessert. The historic Plaza has been restored and has a lot of character. The suite my husband and I had was really gorgeous-- antique-looking furnishings, 20-ft.ceilings, a separate sitting room with desk and another TV, Keurig coffee maker (for those who enjoy a good brew , it's top-notch). Can't say enough about the wonderful staff-- from Arlene (the bartender who fetched us from the airport), to the wonderful reception and dining room people-- thanks to all who made us welcome and created a wonderful stay! The hotel restaurant served up lovely regional cuisine. We would definitely recommend this hotel, and intend to return for a longer stay.

Room Tip: If you need quiet to sleep, I would recommend asking for a room that doesn't overlook the park...

“A Great Stay in a Beautiful Historic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

We detoured a bit off our Route 66 trip in order to stay at The Plaza Hotel. The owners are to be congratulated and thanked for the wonderful job they did on restoring this lovely place. We know from past experience that staying in an old hotel can sometimes mean small, dark and dingy rooms and weird shaped "afterthought" bathrooms. What a pleasure it was to open our hotel room door and find a beautiful, high ceilinged room with light streaming in from large windows. The bathroom, while not huge, was sparkling clean and perfectly adequate. The free breakfast was served in the hotel's restaurant where you could order anything from the menu. There were two small negatives that probably should be mentioned although, in fairness, one problem is out of the hotel's control. The hotel sits right on the pretty, tree filled plaza. Apparently, one of the favorite pastimes of Las Vegas' younger crowd is to cruise the plaza endlessly. So, from about 4:00 pm to after 9:00 pm, if your room faces the plaza you are subjected to a non-stop parade of noisy trucks, rumbling motorcycles and cars with their radios blaring (we stayed at the hotel on a Friday night so this might be something that only happens on weekends). Thankfully, the parade stopped before 10:00 so we were able to get to sleep. The other issue was when we wanted to grab some lunch at a time when the restaurant was closed. We were directed to the bar across the lobby which serves a modified menu. Between the blasting rock music and the banks of televisions the noise level is pretty high. The bartender (who was a very nice guy) seemed to be a lot more comfortable serving drinks than food. At one point (happily it was after we had gotten our food) he pulled the bottom of his t-shirt up over his belly and blew his nose in it. We could only hope that he washed his hands before serving the next meal. Overall, though, The Plaza is a lovely hotel, a really good value, and definitely worth a stay.

“excellent value for money”

After news of a recent refurbishment and on the recommendation of a friend we booked into the Plaza for 3 nights and were not disapointed. Although the bathroom was a little cramped the overall standard of the room was really good. We enjoy the downtown atmosphere of Las Vegas, and have stayed in a number of hotels in this area, but for value for money the Plaza is unbeatable.

“I make a special trip for the Plaza Hotel and Las Vegas, NM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I love this place! It is clean and homey. I bring my dogs and they are well-loved. The food is good and the service friendly. I discovered the Plaza Hotel about 12 years ago and have probably stayed there 10 times. It was really remodeled after appearing in "No Country For Old Men" -- thank goodness! We love the Plaza Hotel and Las Vegas, NM

Room Tip: Just ask. I ask for a fan also. I love the plaza across the street. I really love everything abou...
