“fine for what you're paying”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

For the price, you get what you would expect. The rooms were relatively clean but could have been cleaner. We had a pet and so were put in one of their "pet-friendly" rooms. I understand why they'd do this -- they don't want their whole motel trashed by people with animals who pee and poop without regard to the motel property. But nevertheless when we went in our dog began to go crazy smelling things, so it was obvious that other animals had been there before. We would have hoped that since we had to pay $10 extra to have a pet they would use the extra money to do an extra thorough cleaning job after pets and their owners leave.

The breakfast was fine and the motel management were courteous. Overall, I'm happy that we stayed here instead of paying $40 extra to stay at a chain that would have only been nominally cleaner and nicer. Still, a little better job keeping the room cleaner (and the grounds too, for that matter) would have been nice.

“Great Budget Motel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

Better than most "budget" chain motels (I won't list their names -- you know which they are), and much less expensive. The room was pretty sizable and included a little table and two chairs -- I really like that. There was also a little fridge & a microwave. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. I stressed to the proprietor that I needed a no-smoking room because I had asthma -- he told me if I had problems to come back and he'd give me another room (the room I started with was fine). Two very, very minor complaints -- the room was very dark. I know other folks generally like softer lighting than I do so that might not be a problem for most people. The other could be a problem for anyone with knee problems: the toilet seemed somewhat low. I think I noticed it more than I would have otherwise because I'm recovering from a knee issue. Bottom line: I'd stay there again, no doubt about it. Additional: If you're sick of the world being taken over by nameless, faceless, unaccountable, uncaring corporations, here's a chance to take a break from that action -- these folks care about their business and treat their customers accordingly.

“Great find - would stay again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

We were driving from Phoenix to Minnesota on a very tight budget. I found the Regal Motel and was a little apprehensive about staying - it only had a couple of reviews on here. The website provided a lot of information and pictures - and for just a little over $50.00 a night I thought what the heck and booked it! I was so surprised and happy when we checked in. I loved that it was the older hotel that you can drive right up to the door to unload things. The rooms are huge compared to most hotels. The rooms had a frig and a microwave oven. The rooms were very clean. I have a bad back and I always worry about what sleeping in a hotel will do to my back - these beds are very comfortable! We were having some problems connecting to the WiFi and the owner Mike came to our room and helped get us connected. He was very helpful!! Our two kids ages 8 & 15 loved the hotel!! I really wish I could find a hotel like this for the price every time I needed to stay at a hotel. If we every travel back through Las Vegas, NM we will be staying at the Regal again!!

“Good cheap motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

There are good cheap motels, and there are bad ones This is a good one: Clean, comfortable rooms, the plumbing works, and the wifi is fast (3MB/second). It is one of the older style motels where you can drive right up to the room, which is really convenient, but the rooms have been refurbished and are in good condition. The complimentary breakfast is your typical donuts, cupcakes, toast, and orange juice. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

“Acceptable budget accommodations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2008

The Regal Motel is hardly fit for royalty, but it will do for budget travelers who need a place for the night and who don’t mind generous amounts of air freshener and blast-from-the-past 1970s dark walnut-veneer pressboard furnishings.

The $36 Roomsaver coupon bought us a smallish queen room that was dated but functional and reasonably clean. The small TV came with a remote and generous local cable (no HBO). A table and two chairs enabled us to enjoy a comfortable dinner in the room, and the windows opened to let some much-needed fresh air inside. The bed was adequate though not particularly comfortable and came with two thin pillows. There were two night stands and a dim light over each.

The small vanity area was well lit and separate from the tub and shower room. The carpet was coming up in a major way at the bathroom door jamb and the vinyl around the toilet had been stained at some point by god knows what – we prefer to think it might have been hydrogen peroxide – but was clean and not a problem, other than the aesthetics. Shower pressure was OK. Scrawny towels were provided, along with a sign warning us that we would be charged if any of them were to go missing. Despite the sign, the couple who manage the place were pleasant. Coffee was available in the office until 10 a.m. (no coffeemaker in the room). There was no breakfast. Checkout is 11 a.m.

The Regal is a large, one-story older property that is quite spread out and has a huge parking lot. You can park right next to your room.

We probably wouldn’t stay there again because of the overabundance of air freshener, but at $36 we have seen worse.

  • Liked — Windows that opened, reasonably clean
  • Disliked — Too much air freshener
