I recently drove from Mississippi to Arizona to see my sister, stopping at certain attractions along the way. Earlier in the day, I explored the mountains around Cloudcroft (elevation 9500 feet) and I believe I put myself a little under the weather with that elevation with me being from an area with an elevation of 380ft. Still, I forced myself to visit White Sands until dark and then needed a hotel in a hurry. This is the first hotel I came across off of Highway 70 and I must say it was nice. Checkin was a little tricky as the attendant tried to scan my license but it came up with some address in Indiana, otherwise it was fine. There really isn't much right at the hotel to eat. There is a steakhouse next door but it was closed and looked like it may have been a weekend only type place.
The entrance to the rooms is a little odd here. You can either enter near the checkin office or at the very back of the hotel. You have to navigate a few stairs whether you are on ground level or not. My room was downstairs and a very comfortable and clean room. The air conditioner worked very well (it was 80 degrees in February here) and was quiet. The entire room was very quiet all night and in the morning for that matter. The shower had a lot of pressure which was great to get all the white sand out of my hair from earlier in the day.
Breakfast was just the standard complementary type with cereal and fruits. Nothing was special there.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for White Sands travelers.
