I will start off by saying that I was at this property 11 months prior. The Sales Manager asked that we give them another try. I did just that. I won’t be back again.
Here is why:
Pros: Location is very close to Old Mesilla; Rooms are generally clean; quiet rooms; Staff evenly distribute Guests to minimize noise.
Cons: Features and Amenities are poorly maintained, staff is indifferent-suspicious; Beds are broken, Maid Service is inconsistent, Decoration is dated
Details: Again, I was there the previous January. Nothing really changed. The main reason I chose this property was for the internal exercise room and indoor pool (February). The pool & hot tub temp changed during our stay from warm to cold to uncomfortable. The Sauna has never worked since I have stayed there. The Exercise room had a disabled treadmill since they had no spare interlock key to operate it. The BowFlex device was a jumbled, incomprehensible tangle of cables with no instruction on how to use this complex device. (I wanted to note that last time I came, I told the Manager that the Phone in the Pool was not working. Their solution- remove the phone- leave the signs to call “0” for Front Desk)
The Breakfast was consistently under-stocked! There was always something missing. Not once did they have everything present. Imagine missing Coffee, Eggs, Yogurt, and Milk! They were also missing staffing. The Front Desk clerk was substituting for this role and trying to keep the food going. About 12 related business guests had their breakfast down there and exhausted everything. The rest of us fought over the leftovers and shrugged over the empty coffee pot.
Housekeeping: They are a paranoid bunch…or are they aliens? Unfortunately, I guess the latter. Typically where they housekeeping staff are not legal citizens, they do not attract attention or dare interact with the customers. Not once, did they say good morning or act pleasant. The Head Housekeeper was a very stern looking woman who always seems to be in a bad mood. I constantly had to go to the Front Desk to get towels or the replacement of Light-bulbs that had failed. You will note the card in the room that they will help you if you forget some basic toiletry item- good luck with that! They didn’t have a basic hair conditioner. Good news is that WalMart is less than a mile away.
I hope you are not a light sleeper. The A/C heater is very loud. It goes on and off with a loud dwell and rattle. There is not much you can do when this unit is 2 feet from the bed. (Before I forget, the bed foundations (lower mattress) were bad on both beds. They had been crushed and folded downward on the foot.
Finally, I gave up after four out of seven days. The good news is that there is a new Comfort Inn and Suites near the University. While the exercise facility in not on-site (5 dollars fee at a nearby Healthclub) - everything is new and holds the promise of a better experience. I hope to review that facility next time.
