I found this Day's Inn via one of the roadside billboards adjoining Interstate 40. Great pricing at the time (in the $30 to $40 dollar range). In need of serious sleep, I checked Route 66 in Gallup for what I could find. On this particular night, this was the best room available I could find after visiting several front desks and inquiring as to price.
Check in was no hassle. . . and at this late night hour, welcome. I was offered an upstairs room, which proved to be both dated and spacious. Though relatively clean, the room had really dated and worn plumbing fixtures. Mattress was good enough, and heater worked fine. Time for sleep. Ahem. . . while getting the noise from the railroad very nearby. Good thing I'm a heavy sleeper.
Towels were really on the thin side. Budget motel quality. The continental breakfast was fine for what it was. . . cereal, milk, juice, and pastries. Coffee too. That was worthwhile.
If I had to do it over again I would have gone to either Red Roof Inn or Motel 6. There's a reason why the Days Inn chain is considered second tier among travelers. This is a good example why. A (probably) pre World War II era lodging with lots of worn items throughout. Uninspired lodging. But is it good enough in a pinch for a night's stay? Yes. However, that's all I'd use it for.
Room Tip: Railroad noise affects all the rooms.
