First assigned room had problems with the TV, which I reported to the desk. Nothing was done about it for over an hour, so I went to the front desk and asked why. After she finished her flirty conversation with her boyfriend, who was playing a handheld video game in the lobby area, I was told rudely by the young lady at the desk that I could have another room. I packed all my belongings and moved. In the second room there were other minor things wrong but I didn't have the patience to put up with rude people. I did ask for a key to the safe in the room and was told brusquely that I would need to leave a cash deposit. I asked whether that was SOP, as they did have my credit card on file. She glared at me and said, "Forty dollars, cash."
Saturday morning there was a gentleman at the front desk who identified himself as the manager. I related what happened the previous evening and he said nothing. I asked whether all guests were treated this way and he looked clueless. Watching him with another guest, I determined that he did indeed speak English, just not to me.
The motel was apparently undergoing some repairs and I was there on a weekend. There were several areas where work was being done on walls that had no safety tape and were strewn with loose sheetrock, pieces of wallpaper and even tools.
I stay in different Motel 8 motels throughout New Mexico on a regular basis and this is the only one that I have not raved about. They are usually clean, well appponted and a very good value. Pity Farmington is the exception.
