“A Decent Overnighter”

Getting in late, after driving all day, we were tired and the hotels in town seemed to be full up. When i checked into the Quality Inn, I was courteously greeted and treated nicely. The room was older but clean and neat. The beds were nice, TV was a little better than basic, there was a fridge and the internet did work well.
The breakfast was definitely basic carbs. Not a hot breakfast, except for waffles.
If there were no other hotels available, you can stay comfortably at the Quality Inn.

“Okay for short stay”

We booked over internet. The continental breakfast had more choices than the next two choice hotels we stayed in (waffle machine, yogurt, and fresh fruit). We used the hotel for a base to run up to Durango for the train ride then on to Arizona where the Choice hotels were a lot worse. It is in a out of the way area for restaurants, etc.

“I can not suggest this hotel to fellow trip advisor travelers.”

Overview:

This hotel is located on a main street, but not near the major shopping business section. Instead it is located next to a commercial business that sells piping, a laundry mat, a 7 2 11 quick mart. The area is not bad, but has a business commercial feel, and is not very attractive. About 1/4 mile away is an adult video store. The hotel itself is in decent condition, but not very well maintained. I stayed here 2 days. My parents stayed here, too, for the same time, but in a room with 2 beds. We experienced similar issues with our rooms.

The good:

1. The hotel staff was attentive and helpful.
2. There was a breakfast with the stay.
3. Hotel has an attractive lobby.
4. There is an elevator.
5. Has a decent price for the room. I paid around $60/night with discounts for AAA.
6. Room had a fridge, microwave, ironing board and iron.
7. The maid who cleaned my room did a decent job, and I left her a tip.

The bad:

1. The hotel is not very well maintained. There was a lot of dust behind the furnature. The matress had stains. The ticking (cloth that hangs down from the bed) was stained in many places. The walls were beat up and marked up. There was a large stain in the carpet outside my room.
2. There was hair (and not just one) on the matress pad.
3. The room with a single bed was very small. Just enough for a bed and stand for tv. No chairs or desk in the room.
4. The breakfast consisted of yogurt, 2 types of cereal, some danishes, bagels, slices of bread, mix for waffles, oatmeal packets, apples, juice, tea, and milk. While this sounds good, they would only put out a certain amount (like 4 apples) and then would let things run out. To be fair, I did not stick around the whole time breakfast was served, but I was there both days they openned and things would run out while I was there and I was one of the first people there (This happened both days). I got the feeling they were trying to save money and just offered the very bare mininum to qualify as having a breakfast.
5. The area around the hotel was not desireable. No grass, just dirt. Commercial buildings surrounding the facility. I stopped in at the quick mart and found some rough looking characters both as customers and clerk (it was late at night though, and might not be like this during the day.).
6. My mom discovered lipstick on her bedspread. She took it down to the front desk, and they were quite helpful in getting her a clean one. However, the new one had a few cigarette burns in it. She reluctantly accepted it for it was "clean".

The ugly;

The air conditioning system was undersized. I believe that this was intentional due to them wanting to save costs. I turned on the AC when I checked in, and then left for dinner. I came back 2 hours later and the room was still hot. It stayed hot the whole night - no exageration. My parents room had the same issue. I left a note for the maid to leave the AC on and she did. Only about midnight on the second night after constantly running did the room cool off to acceptable levels, but never got cold, and this was after being on for more than 24 hours! My parents room never cooled down, and remained warm. (And it was not extremely hot outside either - upper 80's-low 90's).

My take on this facility:

At one time this may have been a nice place, but I get the feeling that they are cutting back to save on $. Lack of cleaning, lack of breakfast, lack of maintenance seems to indicate this. You are best to look elsewhere for a room. And the kicker of my experience here was that they had a prominately displayed award from Trip Advisor 2010 stuck to there front window at the entry. I have no idea how they ever got this award! It leaves me to wonder if they ever earned it, or did they get it through unethical means.

This information has been honestly presented. Please take the time to rate my review. Thank you. Happy travels!

“Surley Front Desk, Rooms Getting Ragged, Go to Durango”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Been staying here for business, 2 times a month for a couple years, but its running downhill fast. You'd think they'd be pleasant to a return guest. Au contraire. Prices have gone up and the level of service has fizzled fast. Get a non-smoking room and it will still reek of smoke. Gym equipment is mostly broken and inoperable. Internet access is wireless and the best signal comes from the Days Inn across the street. Be prepared to get kicked off often. Too bad if you're working... Breakfast used to be actually tolerable. Now there's just a few factory processed hard boiled eggs, a couple sad oranges, the thawed glop waffles, frozen bagels and baaaad coffee. I'm seriously looking for another place with Choice Hotel points at a reasonable price. Lately, I've been just driving to Durango. There's also some good food in that town too. Farmington. What a pit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a desk or you'll get a cramped cubicle. Non Smokers, good luck.
