This is your standard corporate Motel 6 that you'll find everywhere in the Western USA, small rooms with a shower stall rather than a shower-bath and a ceiling mount heat/air handler unit rather than the under-window unit typical in budget motels, but they've started refurb'ing it.

The good: It's clean, and the hot water works. The bed is sort of soggy like most Motel 6 beds, but keeps you off the floor okay. This is one of the Motel 6 properties that has been updated with the new roomier shower stalls, the one with the curtain that points the shower head at the wall rather than at the door. They've added WiFi as part of the refurb and it works well.

The strange: They're pulling out all the carpet and replacing it with laminate flooring. In a way that's good, because the carpet in Motel 6 properties invariably turns into a sticky goo after a few years due to the number of parents with small children who use this chain (said small children seeming to have a propensity to throw peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all over the place, from what I can tell). The cleaning staff mops these laminate floors every day so they're nice and clean, but this definitely is unusual.

The ugly: They changed out the shower stall when they did the refurb, but left the old-school analog wall thermostat that has no numbers on it to set the temperature (when they refurb'ed the Motel 6 in Mojave, an identical design, they updated to digital thermometers so I know it's possible to do so with this vintage of Motel 6). So it's either too hot or too cold, never just right. Luckily the bed had a nice comforter on it, I eventually just turned off the heat and relied on the blanket and comforter to keep me warm.

The just wrong: They're charging $10/night more than similarly situated Motel 6 properties in the West. This reduced the room from being a great value to being merely average -- other discount hotel chains provide similar value now. Given the time I pulled in (after 9PM on an unplanned stop caused by bad weather) I wasn't going to look for a cheaper motel just to save $10, but if you're planning ahead, you might also look at other discount hotels in Deming.
