We stayed at the Chocolate Turtle two years ago and loved it then; it lived up to, and possibly surpassed, our expectations this time. Dallas and Nancy made us feel like returning friends.
There are 4 guest rooms, each with its own motif, and a lovely large living room with a cozy fireplace to be used by all complete with a computer to be shared. (There is also Wi Fi throughout.) A pleasant breakfast room adjoins with the possibility to make coffee or tea at any time, and it is stocked with soft drinks, water, ice, glassware, etc.
The decor is colorful and Southwestern in tone but with all the wonderful New Mexico accents that make it so special. The artwork is largely from local artisans. Because we were there just after the holiday season the house was decorated outside with luminaria and inside with multiple trees and lights. It was very festive.
Although it was too cold to sit outside this time we have enjoyed the large patio and yard in the past. One has a perfect unobstructed view of the mountains from the patio so it can be an ideal place to sip morning coffee or to watch for the resident roadrunner. The house sits on 1.5 acres so it feels spacious.
I think what makes this B & B so special is the attention to detail. Each morning the table setting as well as the food was different. It was so obvious that each element was chosen with care. And the food was delicious! We stayed 4 nights and each breakfast was wonderful and unique.
We are looking forward to returning to this "gem" in the artistic, quiet village of Corrales. The setting is peaceful and yet so close to Albuquerque's downtown or to Santa Fe.
