“Budget motel, budget price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2010

Let's just say that you get what you pay for. I got it for $35 on priceline as a stop-over between Austin and Durango, knowing in advance that I'd probably get this motel, with all of its bad reviews, based on what was available in Clovis. When we checked in, I wasn't sure if I was in the right place because the office was totally torn up and seemingly under renovation. There was a partially assembled (or disassembled) desk, a home computer, and that's it. Let's just say that I had immediate feelings of my cheapness coming to bite me in the you know what. But the man that came from the back room was very nice and got me checked in immediately. The bill showed a rate of $29.40. When I asked why the discrepancy between my $35 Priceline bid and his $29 rate (not that I was complaining), he said something like "Well, this is the price that we are charging right now." Because of his somewhat poor language skills, I could not really figure out what that meant after some more questioning, so I guess I'll wait to see what the credit card charge looks like.

The first room had a clogged toilet, so the office manager quickly got us (myself, wife, 2 young kids) into a neighboring 2-bed room, which had no issues. The room was clean, everything worked, the sheets were very clean and even new looking/smelling, though the comforters were VERY stained. Those were removed. The carpet was also heavily stained, though clean (i.e., vacuumed). Our stay was uneventful (no further issues with anything in the room, no noise from neighbors on both sides, etc.) and pleasant. The continental breakfast was dissapointing with a poorly working waffle maker (or bad batter), 2 cereals, and some bread and bagels, but it was enough for what we needed.

So in summary, if you're looking for a ~ $30 stop-over without lofty expectations, then it's not a bad place. If you're expecting something special or want absolutely no negatives, then stay away, as you probably would have anyway. ;)

“Surprising quality and a low budget price!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2009

Working in Clovis, NM I stayed at this hotel and found it to be a much better place than the rates and location would indicate. It had very decent rooms, a continental breakfast, free internet and even a nice swimming pool. I stayed there on business for 8 days and found the location good for going in town. To be honest the location in of itself was a bit rundown. With that in mind, it had several good restaurants nearby and was close to some nice attractions. The Local zoo was well worth the money and was much larger then one would expect in a town this size. Plus for those interested in archeology, there is a fantastic but small museum about 20 miles south of town on the eastern new Mexico campus. There are some very decent restaurant all over town and believe it or not, wile I was there it rained a lot.

The hotel staff is of Indian origin, so that cause some issue with communications, the young man is the best person to talk to. They also have a good on site laundry. Itis in a small shack but the machines can handle the loads well.

Plus there is the studio where Buddy Holly fist recorded is music in town.

“Not a Comfort Inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2007

Planning our return trip from a winter in southern California, my wife and I used Google to research various locations to stop during our drive. We decided on Clovis as a stop and read about the Comfort Inn, the reviews sounded acceptable so we called to make a reservation. We do not recall the people taking the reservation saying it was anything but that they were a "Comfort Inn". Upon reaching there, also after a long drive, we couldn't find it and finally called them to find out their location as there wasn't a Comfort Inn any way near where their address should have been. They told us they were now a Rodeway Inn, confirming our worst fears as we had driven by the place a couple of times. The place was old and just marginally okay for one night. We avoided breakfast. It should be noted sleeping with loud railroad whistles blowing about every 20 minutes all night is close to impossible unless your hearing is gone. We assume all locations along this street have the same problem, but maybe they have some sound deadening. If it was a $30 or $35 room it would been just okay, but nearly twice that is a rip. There is a Hampton Inn close by where we should have stayed.

“Avoid...”

We booked at the Comfort Inn on the Choice Hotels website a week before leaving for a drive across the West. On arriving in Clovis after a long, tiring day of driving, we drove around futilely looking for the Comfort Inn (and asking two people who sent us where they thought it was). We eventually discovered we couldn't find it because it was now the Rodeway - the (surly as noted in another review) desk clerk claimed this was the website's fault and not theirs.
As other reviewers note, the hotel is dilapidated and filthy. Even the lobby ... We checked out immediately upon surveying the scene and moved to a much nicer motel in the same strip.

“Completely awful!”

The stairwells and sidewalks of this motel are filthy with debris; they smell and are sticky from never having been cleaned. The wallpaper in our room was peeling, and the ceiling had a water stain. The desk clerk was surly. We listened to trains from the tracks across the highway all night. Never again!!!!!
