“Beautiful, Relaxing and Remote”

My dogs and I spent 2 nights at Casa Escondida and loved it. We rented the Casita and the first night were the only ones at the B & B. The second night there was only one couple with us. The facilities are VERY comfortable and the hospitality was warm. The breakfasts were large and terrific. I did have a difficult time finding the B & B originally and would suggest larger signs. Somehow I was going exactly opposite from the instructions I wrote down. But once I got there, I loved it. The last morning we woke up to big juicy snowflakes that were just beautiful. We took walks around the property during the day and there are some interesting sights there too. I also visited the Santuary and some galleries up to Truchas. I needed to rest and relax and this was the perfect place! We hated to leave!

Room Tip: Dogs can stay in the casita and the casita has a kiva and kitchen facilities.

“A Diamond in the Rough”

Don't let the run down looking mobile homes on your way to this B&B fool you. Once you get to your destination, this B&B is truly a hidden gem. Yes it's not located in the best surroundings but all of that is quickly forgotten when you pull in and get to your room.

We stayed in what they called the "Casita" suite. It had a large bedroom, kiva fireplace, kitchenette, and sitting room, with an extra trundle style bed. It had ample room for our 2 adult, 2 child family.

The breakfast's were pretty good, a little shy on the meat (bacon, ham, etc.) but the pancakes were good. The staff was friendly and they gave us the run of the house which was really nice - need a glass of milk at 2 AM? They have it. That really made you feel at home, which is what a bed & breakfast is supposed to do.

Room Tip: Book the Casita if you can get it. It's very roomy and comfy.

Thank you. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay (and the glass of milk in the middle of the night). Keep in mind that we are always happy to provide a second helping of anything that we are serving for breakfast. Just ask. It's not a problem.

“Lovely spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

If you are looking for a quiet, interesting, beautiful place to stay a lttle off the beaten path in New Mexico, Chimayo is a great choice, and Casa Escondida is the place to stay. We were debating between Casa Escondida and the Hacienda Rancho del Chimayo based on the guide books and online reviews, and we were thrilled when we got to Casa Escondida that we had decided to stay there. It is MUCH more charming than the Hacienda. We were lucky to arrive just after many guests had left, so only two other rooms were occupied. We chose the Sun Room, which has a separate entrance and its own patio with a view of the surrounding mountains -- completely charming and tranquil. The only sounds were the wind and distant barking dogs. The house itself is a well maintained, tastefully furnished hacienda in the hills above town, with a very pretty breakfast room, a comfortable couch in the living room, and free Internet access. Belinda runs a very professional operation. After the traffic and hustle bustle of Santa Fe and Taos, this place was a delightful change of pace. In town, the Rancho del Chimayo restaurant is not to be missed, and the Sanctuario del Chimayo is a must-see pilgrimmage site. Both are only a mile or so from Casa Escondida.

Room Tip: The Sun Room is spacious, airy, and delightful.

Thank you. We try to offer a quiet and secluded place that is very authentic, yet still offer the amenites that most guests seek (hearty breakfast; free wi-fi; daily paper; cozy robes in the rooms; outdoor hot tub; etc). I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay.

“I Second The Great Reviews and Understand, yet reject, the Poor Ones”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Poor reviews were obviously written by people who are used to Hiltons and Denny's. First, Casa Escondida is not hard at all to find IF one follows the accurate directions on the website. Secondly, the bathrooms are spotless and the fixtures in tune with the age of the facility; they are not new, chrome and plastic and there's no blaring TV or other noise to detract from the beautiful solitude of the property. Even the music in the sitting room is peaceful and relaxing. It is period construction and is spotless and friendly. We were there in the winter so bugs were non existent but I can only note that bugs exist in the summer throughout the world and are a fact of nature particularly in a country setting. Cookies from Costco? That reviewer must go to a different Costco than I do. The cookies were tasty and obviously freshly baked. This is a beautiful, secluded (once again, if you want to listen to the Interstate and get that as a view, go to a chain motel) and staffed by wonderful, friendly and caring people. As for the house cat—if you have an allergy or don't like cats, merely ask the staff to "seclude" Griffith. He does not bother anyone during dining and does not beg at table. In summary, this is a beautiful, secluded setting with period rooms and a great staff. WE WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It presents the B&B concept in great fashion. The name of the properly is a perfect description—if you don't understand it, ask a Spanish speaking friend.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden Room, Number 1, which is one of the smallest rooms on the property. It was...

Thank you. We understand that we are not able to be a perfect fit for 100% of the traveling population. If you are seeking a "Marriott" experience, then we may not be the best fit for your travel needs. However, if what you are seeking is a quiet, secluded location (that is TV-free) with nice views of the foothills, great sunsets; a hearty breakfast, comfortable rooms and an ideal central location to tour most of the Northern New Mexico area, then you will enjoy your stay at Casa Escondida B&B. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to have you as a guest again soon.

“Great B & B in the Chimayo area--do not miss this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We stayed 2 nights in this well run, old fashioned New Mexico bed and breakfast. It is a lovely, tranquil setting in the country. We booked the Casita, which has a bedroom, kiva fireplace, kitchenette, and sitting room, with an extra bed. Everything was about the place was charming. The staff is efficient and friendly. The breakfast had juice, delicious cut up fruit, ham one day, sausage the next and a hot entree, one day it was a pumpkin quiche. There is free wifi throughout, and a computer and printer to use also. Griffin the cat is so friendly he wants to sit on your lap or visit your room. This is a quiet, peaceful retreat in the country. We have already booked another stay in January.
One note--this is a somewhat difficult place to find, especially at night. You need to follow the directions from the B & B, not a GPS which will take you up the wrong country road. Once you make the hard right off Route 78 onto CR 100, go 1/2 mile--on your right will be a gray mobile home and on the left is a chain link fence. Turn left at the end of that fence (sign for the B & B) onto a dirt road and follow that to Casa Escondida.

Yep. If you have not stayed with us before, ideally we suggest that you try to arrive before dark (as a first-time guest). We haven't lost anyone yet but we are located in a rural area. There are very few street lights (which makes for great star gazing out here). Casa Escondida means "the hidden house" and we mean it. We sit on 6 acres and our driveway is 1/4 of a mile long. Once you arrive and you can get your bearings, you will have no problem coming and going at any time of day or night. Be sure to print the driving directions that are posted on our website (your GPS is not likely to be of much assistance) and just take your time arriving. Thank you and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay.
