“A wonderful inn”

We came to Chama to ride the train. We found the inn to be clean and the grounds beautiful. We stayed in #9 upstairs in the end. It was spacious and comfortable. My only problem was the wireless Internet. Had to go outside and sit on the bench to get it. It was nice outside so this was not a a problem. At the front of the store, the owner displays her glass jewelry. We loved them and bought several pieces. The people were very friendly and gave us good restaurant advice.

“Handy to station, thats all”

Stayed two nights because of comvenience to Cumbres and Toltec train. This is a two star motel, and we thought it was reasonable value for the $75 a night we paid in peak season. The room upstairs was clean, as was the bathroom, and the proprietors are very friendly. It is a very basic hotel, with some drawbacks. No air con, no iron/ironing board available, pretty small room, a bit stuffy after a fairly hot day. There was a band playing at the hotel over the road the second (Friday) night we stayed, which kept us awake to 1 am, but I think this was a one off because of the 'chama days' festival that was on at the time. Other reviews noted squawking floorboards in the rooms, which we also experienced, so get an upstairs room, as we did, and you do the squawking. If you stay downstairs you get squawked at.

“No air conditioning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

This hotel is probably just fine when the weather is cooler but we went during a heat wave and had to leave windows open while sleeping. There were no curtains - just wooden shutters - so to keep from roasting we had to sleep with windows and shutters open. Anyone could walk by, peak in, and see us asleep. It was still uncomfortably hot and we had no feeling of privacy.

“Loved it! Clean, quiet, convenient location.”

We stayed two nights in room 5 and it was really cute (end unit, upstairs with fireplace). Definintely spend the extra $10 for this room or #9 below it. They are bigger and have fireplaces and are on the end to help with any noise problem. (We were there when it was practically empty so we can't say how loud our neighbors were).

The bed was really comfy. The decor is homey and feels like you're staying at a friend's house. Even the sheets and towels are a nice sage green- not that institutional white in hotels. And they smelled like laundry detergent- not bleach! The lady at the front desk was really nice and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again.

“very happy with our stay”

In Chama for an event weekend on the railroad we booked the Station Inn because to be honest we couldnt get in to where we had stayed in the past - am am glad about it. Lovely old rooms in an old (1927 hotel) well fitted out. Rooms were comfortable with all you would expect, baring in mind where you are. Spent a lazy afternoon having a quiet drink on teh verandah watching a storm brew up in the mountains and the humming birds squabble over the feeder. No food on site, but Fosters Hotel over the road and the Boxcar Cafe next door ensure you wont have to go hungry. Maybe back again next year and they would be the FIRST place we try for accommodation
