“Was Perfect for Me”

January 2012, we spent 10 relaxing days at this lovely beach resort, reserving via the net when still in Canada. Our detached cottage was very comfortable - even had 2 lounges on the outside porch to sprawl on in the heat of the day - all just metres from the 10k long sandy beach lining the Gulf of Siam. SeaStar is fortunate in that they have huge leafy tress on the beach, so that you could pull up your lounge under the trees when it becomes hot and were smart to let their massage people set up there too - ahh - tough days we experienced :) They have a very nice restaurant .... and there are many others to access by simply walking along the beach. Many times we hopped a $1.00 taxi to town and instead ate there. Everything is informal - dressing up was not the thing - relaxing, mooching about, taking tours, eating and shopping was the name of the game. We had one of SeaStar's employees - Khanh Quoc Do, approach us about John'sTours, thru which we each took a super motorcycle trip to visit the National Park and also a snorkeling/fiishing trip to view 12 southern islands. They looked after us very well and those that wanted to just watch were not pushed. As I am exceptionally poor in Vietnamese :( ,,,,,, I was delighted to find that Mr. Khanh was fluent in English which made our arrangements a snap. When visiting Duong Dong town, please don't hesitate to ask for him. My goodness it is beautiful on Phu Quoc and especially with our staying at SeaStar. And all the staff were wonderful. I look forward to visiting again - the sooner the better, as such a stunning area with so little development, will definitely not last long. A truly special place.

“Almost perfect”

This is a really lovely chilled out place to stay.
Recommend the Sea View bungalows as opposed to Beach front ones as they are a bit more private (detached).
Staff all friendly and couldn't find fault with the service. In particular we found Ken to be a very likeable young man. He always has a smile on his face and is really keen to improve his English so always looking for opportunities for a conversation.
Only slight complaints are firstly there isn't enough sunbeds to go around and unless you get up at 6.30 in the morning and put your towel on one you won't get one and secondly a small investment in some decent pillows would help towards getting a better sleep. A tip for ladies there is no mirror near a plug if you need to use a hairdryer.
Location is excellent, only a 30 minute trip to walk into town with plenty of excellent restaurants to try out along the way.

Room Tip: Sea View rooms detached and more private

“Wonderful week in paradise”

Just returned from a one week stay at Sea Star Resort. Very clean and comfortable; great large shower. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice added touch of complementary brithday cake (beautifully decorated) provided at a moment's notice for our son's birthday. Reasonably priced for location on beautiful stretch of Long Beach. Close proximity to town and nearby restaurants. Would certainly stay there again and encourage others to consider this beautiful spot on the island.

Room Tip: beach front recommended although none are far from beach

“Second time here, still love it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed here for the second time now, two years from the last time. Its still a great resort. I am not going to go into detail, as you can look up my last review; nothing much has changed...except now there are cushions for the lounge chairs. This really doesn't make much of a difference as now there are many, many, many, many Russian tourists visiting...they get up at the crack of dawn and steal all the chairs by placing a bag or book or hat on the chairs and then go back to bed. In fact if you really want to have a good time, wait until they leave and then pile up all their crap on one chair and move the 'reserved chairs' away and use them or let others have them...then have the camera ready! Its like watching a comedy show, but with lots of Russian swearing. They walk around accusing everyone of stealing their chairs, regardless of whether or not they are the correct chairs. They swear and spit and generally have red-faced tantrums like 250 pound children in disturbing swimwear (I think Russia must have stockpiled the world's supply of those striped 1970's tight swim trunks????) Anyways, as for the resort, its still great, and I would again, stay there in a minute. The food at the little restaurant is still great, although the prices have gone up a little, and the portions down a little. Just remember if you are going to have dinner around sunset (beautiful red sunsets, aaah) douse yourself with repellent, as the mozzies are horrific!! I think they upgraded their wifi, because we had no problem with the signal strength as we did two years ago. My only real complaint is that if you stay in the beachfront rooms, they are not detached, so you can hear everything the neighbors say and do (like in the bathroom - ahem!, nasty!) If you don't want this problem, stay in the garden rooms instead, which are detached. But you need a beachfront villa if you want to witness the Russian-chair fiasco firsthand. Sorry, I don't have any photos from this trip available.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms can be noise as they are not detached. If you want more privacy get a detached gard...

“Everything is great except for the beds...”

This place is really nice - right on a nice stretch of beach with lots of restaurants within easy walking distance (including Spice House on the beach and Carole's on the street - yum)!

We had a sea view room which was really obstructed due to the beachfront cabins, but still worth it b/c it was so close to the beach. You could get away with a garden room if you want to save a few bucks - they aren't very far from the beach either.

The resort is clean and comfortable - bathrooms good and room size good. There are two problems:
1. there aren't enough beach chairs to sit on at the waterfront - super annoying
2. the beds are so uncomfortable and hard. We're Canadian, but we live in China, so we know hard beds and these were ridiculous - even the pillows felt like you were sleeping on a Sunday edition of the NY Times - we couldn't sleep very well at night - the resort definitely needs to invest in some mattress toppers or new mattresses! (We wouldn't stay at the resort again unless they fixed the beds and pillows, even though everything else about it was great.)
