The property is beautiful and the room design is unique, spacious and filled with nice touches. The hotel had the most comfortable beds we had in Vietnam and our third person cot was a single bed (moved in by several staff) that was just as great as the actual bed!
Like other reviewers noted, the downside is the food. To be fair - Chen's food is probably held to a higher standard because the hotel is pretty isolated so guests who are in the relaxing part of their trip just end up eating the hotel's food repeatedly. It's not that many dishes were bad, but you expect more for the price and quality of the hotel. For example, there are only a handful (7?) of lunch options at the pool and 2-3 were not available each day of our stay - the first day was fine, but by the third day you are bored with the options. As for dinner, it seems like one of management's responses to the issues with the food is that there is a different dinner buffet each day. However, the dinner buffet is $35/person. Though I'm used to paying that much for dinner in the US, meals at that price point in Vietnam should be exceptional. Further, who wants to spend that much on a whole buffet when you just want one solid dish rather than an entire buffet again? The menu has a variety of cuisines (jack of all trades, master of none?), but doesn't leave you with a feeling that you're on an island, or in Vietnam! I read similar Tripadvisor reviews before going, but was satisfied with all the manager responses and gave it a shot. However, it now seems like the management just tries to discredit/downplay the common thread in these reviews rather than fully address them.
Overall, though the staff/service have a few kinks to work out, the resort is tranquil and gorgeous - a beautiful, well-attended escape! A tip though - make an effort to go off property for some meals, so that the tab doesn't leave you feeling like you spent a lot... for not much.

Dear TTSTW,
Well perception is not always reality.
Taking over this Resort a bit more than 3 months ago, if you think that I have time to lose to just try to discredit/downplay the common thread in the reviews of this Forum, I apologize but nope, not at all. We do answer to all our guests’ comments on a daily basis and I do many myself.
When we say that guests have choice between a Buffet, true never the same, a full size Menu and the possibility to ask anything they want to the Executive Chef, and this last one works really nicely, it is because it is true. And that means a lot in term of choices and possibilities.
Yes we did change the menu served by the Pool or the Beach, and we did the same in the rooms. We made it simple and easy to manage so to try to avoid that food coming from far is reaching our guests cold. Now what is not normal and I shall investigate is why items were missing.
What is amazing is that we have guests coming for a week or two and do not go out a single time to eat outside. How is it possible. Why would they eat every night a Buffet that you say is so expensive at 35$ tax and service included. One thing is true, no matter how many times they promised us to post their comments in Trip Advisor, they don’t do it…
I have difficulties as well to make a bridge between the price of food in the USA and in Vietnam in a 4* Resort. I have been to the States too and never had an exceptional meal at 35$. I remember that it was often the amount of tip to be left; I remember of Sushis sold in New York at 50$ a piece. Why suddenly because it is Vietnam, 35$ for a dinner is a fortune?
This being said, our new team and I won’t change everything in such a short time of high season. I have promised to do it and we are working on it.
Then we’ll just have to find a way to get the good comments pouring in Trip Advisor.
Kind regards and thank you again for your comments.
Olivier, your GM of the Chen Sea Resort & Spa, Centara Boutique Collection.
