“Service from hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Stayed in hotel after booked on internet. Room was not reserved (could not found the booking they said). Wanted double bed but they said it was not available. After threatening that i was leaving (should have done that) they suddenly found a double bed (strange). Hotel has a very bad smell inside but the most disturbing was the very poor and rude service in a country known as the best service in the world !!! Checked out after 2 days to go to "Dusit Korat", a much better hotel. But suddenly Sima Thani had found my reservation on internet they said and charged my credit card for 5 nights anyway. They can only do this once, never again !!

“Worn building, meals ok, but the worse quality of service ever!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Very old site, with carpets that I would feel disgusted walking in bare feet and all water faucets showing clear signs of time aging. The air-con seems to have a "paddling monkey" inside and although it actually works, you have to wait some good 20 minutes or more to feel the difference from the local heat... Once working, we were never able to wonder how to set it up, it was always or hot or freezing.

Still, the beds are quite fine and the toilet seats are -obviously- new. Also new it's the Universal control for all lights, music (3 Thai stations) and TV has (5 Thai channels) which it is placed on the night table besides the beds (twin in our case).

GOOD -

* Food at the first floor restaurant wasn't the big deal, but for the good price of the buffet, it was ok. Beware of getting there early, as the signs states they are open 'til 11pm, however we witnessed how by 9pm all tables had been picked up, choices in the buffet were less and less from 8pm onwards and by 8:45pm one of the waiters, after picking up all sauce bottles and sugar from the nearby tables, stood next to ours, like saying: finished... ok, go!

* Free Wi Fi with a decent connection in the rooms (this was actually the best of the stay)

* Location as it is close to the major Shopping Centers in Korat and it is the closest one to the vivid, well priced and diverse Night Market.

BAD

* Costumer Service is TERRIBLE!!! (to put it nicely)... pretty rude reception and you will never get a greeting back from the waiters on room service... You can easily see how the general manager simply don't give it a though about how guests are treated and every employee makes a good use of it been incredibly impolite!

IN THE END

We will try to keep staying at the Royal Princess Dusit (not perfect either, but MUCH more friendly). We have stayed at Sima Thani only because Princess has been full, but will make sure carefully to avoid it at all cost... We hope -next time- to give it a try in another one nearby called V1 (?) as an option.

Room Tip: Make sure they give you a refurbished room with new toilet seat and Universal Control... other ways...

“Five stars? Hmmmm...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011 via mobile

Stayed only 1 night after a long weekend. Hotel virtually empty. Because of a miserable freezing night the previous day, we decided to treat ourselves to *****. Our adjoining rooms were spacious, but surprise, surprise, no teamaking facilities. And no hot water! Its only hot in the mornings. Free internet tho, password from reception desk. The non-smoking floor smelt a bit musty and a lingering smell of cigarette smoke, but the rooms seemed mostly OK (no smell). Aircon was a bit noisy. Room looked as tho it had once been quite pleasant, but now a bit threadbare and spartan for 5 stars. Location was fine, if isolated from "downtown" for pedestrians. There were a few very basic restaurants in the immediate area. We found one, in a nearby soi, which had really delicious Isan food. From the hotel, turn left and walk to the first road and turn left again. The restaurant is on the other side, about 75 meters along. The sun-dried fried spiced pork (moo daet diaw) was fantastic, best ever! Overall, the hotel was average, but good value for the (greatly reduced) price of 3000 baht for 2 rooms, including an adequate if uninspiring bfst. But it is not 5 stars, so dont expect too much.

“Well, it is still a passable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Despite the not so good overall review of this hotel, honestly I find it acceptable for just 1 night stay...may I stress again, 1 night stay. Have been told this is the best hotel in Korat and I can understand that. Was initially booked in a standard room which on arrival noted the room is in an adjacent tower. The moment I got in, was a little put off by the rooms as it has a mouldy smell and looks simple. Asked to me upgraded and was given a deluxe room which is in the main building.

Room wise as I said is very simple and old looking but it does look clean other than one lizard I noticed always running around in my room but some how it got away before I get to bed. Nothing to praise about in the room honestly except it is spacious.

The location is good in Korat as it is just 5-10 minutes drive to a huge shopping mall that offers every thing and anything. Breakfast at the hotel would by any standard be well spread but the quality is only passable.

On the whole, an average hotel good enough for business travel but then again, this is an old hotel.

Room Tip: Ask to be housed in the main building

“A tough test for your immune system”

Thanks god - we only had to stay one night at this hotel!

From outside, it looks like one of these large multi-purpose hotels made with very little taste in the seventies/eighties/nineties (depending on the level of progress of taste in the region). Inside, you get a very unprofessional welcome, lousy and filthy rooms as well as a Swimming Pool which could be used for dozens of seminar or master works at the microbiological faculty of any major University - I am sure that there are dozens of unknown little animals that are waiting to be discovered by scientists in this broth.

When we were there, all other guests were single males - sometimes with local company - from various continents. There must be a lot of business to be done in this region ;-) - especially in the streets just beside the hotel.

But the worst is yet to come: the restaurant used for all meals is not only disgusting from a culinary perspective, but just insalubrious - to such an extent that I am wondering whether this is not an initiative of an NGO to put the sex tourists in this region out of order for at least three weeks, the time they need to get back home ...

To sum it up: take ANY hotel in this region - except this one!
