After extensively looking at photos, we booked a 'superior bungalow' and I was expecting this lovely Balinese style bungalow like in all the pics, with an outside sitting area. Nope. We got a small and dark room without any possibility of sitting outside. The bath was almost impossible for me to get into with a foot injury, as it was high and with a very wide rim, even though I had let reception know of my injury at time of booking. There was no bath plug, only a very rusted hole. It was our first visit and I imagined us in this bright airy room, not in total darkness needing lights on during the day. The TV was the tiniest I've ever seen, dinner placemat size. It did have a few channels though. Aircon blew on bed and saved the day. Had no mozzies to bother us either. The entrance door was so small you needed to open both sides to get in, and duck your head. I thought this was quite quirky and we appreciated the Balinese feel to the room, with the wooden ceilings. Small fridge cooled our water bottles and was all we needed.
The pool has no steps to get in and out, only a very small steel ladder which I could not use with my injury. This made pool use very difficult, but the pool itself is lovely. A shallow end and spacious deep end make it a very pleasant area to spend time in. There will be a few towels in the morning at the pool area, be quick, they don't get replaced and there's only a few out.
The dining area is the best thing in this resort. It's lovely, open and breezy, beautifully decorated and relaxing and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is usually good, they are quite accommodating and there's nothing to fault with the food. Would go there even if we stayed elsewhere.
Rooms were cleaned daily, although one day we got no water bottles and our coffee powder was not replaced after the first day. Didnt bother me, wouldn't use the kettle anyway as never been descaled. Water is cheap to buy at the mini mart across the road at 50c a bottle anyway, and coffee everywhere is between $3.50 and $4. Towels are as cheap and thin as they come, threads hanging off, but once again, its a budget hotel. Blue bird taxies are cheap, insist on meter on and get out if they don't. Will cost you $2 into seminyak shopping centre and $5 to Kuta. Do NOT use any money changers down the lanes, they pocket about half of what you get, you won even know. go to the bank money changer across the seminyak shopping centre they use a machine.
Tip: if buying clothes, insist on you holding them and inspect them closely. Most dresses are faulty.
Would I return to Ananda resort? Don't know. Maybe if they have a family bungalow available. All pics you see of bungalows are indeed family bungalows. It is value for money though and you get what you pay for. Oh, and although its called Ananda resort and SPA there is no spa or spa treatments. Maybe they are planning to include them soon as renovations are happening. Great location on the road with loads of restaurants.
