“Comfortable, consistent and CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Several years ago we traveled down the Jersey shore to check out lodging there, since our daughters had moved to Philadelphia. Being MD residents, we were familiar with OC, MD and with the DE beaches, but the Jersey shore was new for us. We ended up in Wildwood and checked several hotels by asking to see rooms before booking. At that time, we were also unfamiliar with Tripadvisor, so this personal check seemed the best option. It was very disappointing. Each place we checked--those with lovely lobbies and nice, inviting exteriors--was just not clean. There were musty, mildewy smells and stale, dark rooms with closed curtains that seemed to hide even more than met the eye and nose. UNTIL we got to Wildwood Crest and went into the Lotus Inn. FINALLY: CLEAN! We were thrilled, especially since we had been about to give up on our search. We stayed at that time, and we have returned several times since. We have rented rooms for 2, and also the townhouses for our family, and our stays have been consistently favorable. The location is perfect. The staff and owners are kind, considerate and generous, bending over backwards to accommodate our changes in plans. They remembered us after our first visit and they lit up with that recognition as soon as we entered the front desk area for check-in during each subsequent stay....and that is a very nice thing. Their "rules" (no smoking, etc) are put in place to ensure that predictable stay for each guest. If you have no problem with adhering to a few common sense guidelines, then you will love Lotus Inn. We're very happy we ended up here. We wouldn't dream of going anywhere else on the Jersey shore!

“Stay here every year”

We enjoy staying at the Lotus Inn. We stay here every year that we go to New Jersey. The only disappointing part is that the pool is on the wrong side of the building. It receives no sun after about 3pm or so. But the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly. Have no problems here. Really enjoy it

“Returned After 11 year Absence”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

After making annual trips for many years, we thought we had outgrown the Wildwoods and had not returned since 2000. Hearing friends talk about their trips this year made us feel that it was time to go back and re-live the wonderful memories we had. We had tried 5 different hotels before finding Lotus Inn which we called "home" for our last 3 trips, so it was only natural to return to Lotus for the trip down memory lane. Our stay this time exceeded our expectations.\

How nice to see the same owners and know that the place is kept clean and their smoke-free policy is strictly adhered to. We stayed in an efficiency where everything was immaculate with the exception of a single stain on the carpet probably left by the previous guest. Knowing how particular the owners are, the stain was probably removed shortly after we informed them upon checkout. The furnishings were modern and clearly updated from our last visit with new dressers, artwork, bathroom and kitchen cabinets. Televisions have not yet been updated to flat screens, but I assume they will be knowing these owners. The attention to detail was obvious with the coordinated wall trimming in muted pastels. I never thought the small pool could have been updated, but it was, with the addition of an understated waterfall on the deeper end and in-pool seating around it. After dark, the pool lights changed colors.

The location of Lotus Inn is ideal since it is directly across from the beach with its own entrance. The mowed grassy area across the street gives unobstructed view of the beach--I hope no one decides to build on this land. A block away is a bike rental place where you can rental and bike all day in the area. We drive to the boardwalk although it can be walkable--we want to save our energy for the walking the 2 mile boardwalk.

From the very helpful front desk people to the friendly owners and the clean accommodations, Lotus made our walk down memory lane most enjoyable and will remain our home away from home when we decide to return.

Room Tip: The only private balconies are the ocean view ones--the others are shared on a common walkway.

“Good… except for the pool.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We stayed at the Lotus Inn several years ago and liked everything about it except the pool. So, when we recently learned that they upgraded their pool, including installing a pool heater, we gave them another try this year. Because the pool is located on the north side of the building, it is mostly in the shade from about 1:00 PM on (especially the second half of the summer). During that earlier trip, the pool water was so cold that no one could stay in for more than a few minutes before giving up.

It was a little better, but the water was still much too cold for a pool that is in the shade much of the day. I don’t know if they were having problems with the heater or simply had the thermostat too low, but it did seem to be off or not really heating any water much of the day. When your pool is in the shade, particularly on a cooler, breezy afternoon, anything other than comfortably warm water doesn’t work. For folks like us with kids who enjoy a short visit to the beach every day, but spend more swimming/lounging time at the pool, this was a significant disappointment.

If a nearly unusable pool is not a deal breaker for you, there are lots of things to like about the Lotus. The rooms are comfortably large compared to other area motels, they offer a complimentary basic breakfast, and have a smoke-free policy that is refreshingly welcome for people like us with smoke allergies in the family. The location is good – about ¾ of a mile from the boardwalk. Just far enough to be quiet, while just close enough to walk to if you enjoy walking.

With so many other choices down in Wildwood for families that place a good pool as a high priority, it is unlikely we’d go back and try them again.
