We are not used to staying in the types of motels that are available in Wildwood. Personally, we are used to Sheraton/Westin timeshares, so if I was comparing this hotel to the timeshares I have stayed in, this would not be a 4 star rating. But when comparing it to the options in Wildwood and places I saw while there, the Ala Moana receives a 4 star rating from me.
I will try to bullet point my review
Motel: We did not use the arcade area so I cannot comment on that. The pool was a good size pool. Larger than many we walked past at other motels. There are so many beach chairs to use and a smaller area for babies/small children. The grill area was small with only one table, but grills were easily accessible. There were grill utensils provided. We stayed with 4 other families and all gathered there for an evening to bbq together. Parking was tight, but typical for all the motels. Everything was clean and painted nicely. There were some stains on the cement walkways, but hey you'll have that anywhere, at least it was clean. Even late in the evening staff was walking around cleaning. Pool was cleaned daily.
Room: We had the type D room. We love this because you enter in the living area and not through the bedroom (like you have to do with a private balcony). This way when our little ones were napping in the bedroom we could still go in and out without disturbing them. The rooms were very clean. They have new flat screen tvs in the bedroom and living room. My husband and I slept on the pull out sofa. Wow it was hard and terrible, but it was better than the floor. There is only A/C in the bedroom so the living room was pretty hot. The bathroom and kitchen were newer and clean.
Kitchen: the kitchen is important to us especially with kids. The was a good size refrigerator, two burners, microwave, toaster, can opener, coffee maker (filters), dish drainer (dishsoap provided), large mixing bowl, strainer, pitcher, ice tray, pots, plates, cups, mugs, flatware, & bowls.
Location: It was NOT a far walk to the beach/boardwalk. It was about 3 blocks away. We didn't mind the walk at all. It was also the perfect location because if you walked to the beach straight from the motel, there were boards laid out on the beach to push strollers/carts easily down the beach. There aren't many access points with this. It was great. Also, there is an Acme, CVS, and Walgreens about 4 blocks from the motel as well.
All in all, it was a great place to stay. We are very picky about cleanliness and were very pleased! We would recommend the Ala Moana. Especially for families with small children! Can't beat having two rooms and the larger pool! Oh and make sure you check out the Cape May Zoo about 10 minutes away! It was FANTASTIC!
