I've never actually stayed at the Eden Roc and still had a very bad experience in the summer of 2006. I planned to stay in Wildwood the last weekend in July for a school reunion. I already had a place of my own booked with some buddies at another motel. My wife was interested in going to Wildwood the same weekend with my step daughter and the Eden Roc was the only place I could find that had a reasonable price, especially with such short notice. So i called to make reservations for a Friday/Saturday night, sent the deposit check and thought everything was cool. Mid-week before that weekend, my wife required emergency surgery and was not allowed to travel by orders of her doctor. I called the owner and after explaining the situation, she still would not budge on a full or partial refund. After reading all of the negative reviews, I believe it was worth the lost $100.00 deposit, rather than exposing my wife to conditions that might cause her infection and other severe health issues. Anyone that has stayed there recently and hated the horrific conditions should report the owner to the local authorities and also the IRS. She is probably claiming losses every year and getting your and my tax money!
I did make a field trip to actually see the place from the outside in the Fall of 2006 and I can see why it is getting all of the rightful negative reviews.

I stayed in this place back in 2001 and I can not believe it's still open! I just want to warn everyone, it is horrible! I personally filed a complaint against them and tried to get my money back. The place is filthy and scummy. It's a disgrace when after a long drive you have to end up in that hell hole. Don't even think about it, if I had to do it again, I would pick sleeping on the beach instead.

My boyfriend and I went to Wildwood for the weekend in August. We didn't book any room in advance. We just went down and looked around to see what was available. The first place we stopped at was Eden Rock. When we walked into the office, the manager was a dirty looking spanish lady who spoke broken English. Someone from the town was there at the time doing an inspection. She was fighting with the inspector about why certain things weren't done. She was in a lot of violation for things like signage, licenses, and other materials that need to be visible and on display. She should have been shut down right then and there.
Anyway, we asked how much a room was, and it was pretty cheap, I forget exactly how much. Then we asked to see a room. The manager wanted something like a $10 deposit, just to see the room. We wouldn't give it to her and explained that we just want to see a room before putting any money down. She the said "You want to see a room? It's right there" and she pointed out the window to a closed door of a random room.
We told her we wanted to look at, physically look at the inside of it. She appeared really annoyed. But finally she gave us a key and told us to go look and said "I'll watch you from here" like she thought we were gunna steal something.
It took us 2 seconds after opening the door to know we didn't want to stay there. It smelled bad. The ceiling was really low. The carpet was gross looking. Paint was chipping off everywhere. The bathroom was really gross and looked like it had never been cleaned. The shower was even worse. If you are tall you would have to duck down in the shower so you won't hit your head on the ceiling. After seeing that room, I can't understand how that place is still open for business. It should be shut down.
We went back the to the office, gave her the key back and said we didn't want it. Then she gave us a dirty look and said "Good."
I can't believe the attitude that woman had.
Save yourself the energy and don't even stop to look at this place. Not worth your time at all. Unless you feel like getting into a fun arguement with the manager. In that case, have a good time!

My wife, 3 year-old daughter, mother-in-law, father-in-law and I stayed at The Eden Roc. My wife, daughter and I stayed in an efficiency room and my mother-in-law and father-in-law stayed in a regular room. According to the web site, Visa and Master card are accepted but when you get there they deal with cash only. Also according to the web site there is a gas grill available so we bought food to grill. Upon arrival, there was no gas grill, only a charcoal grill that was absolutely filthy and unworthy of cooking on. Again, according to the web site "most rooms have new carpeting". My room nor my in-law's room had new carpeting. When we first arrived and checked in, my in-laws room was not ready and they had to switch rooms. The new room did not have new carpet either. In fact, every room that I could see into had no new carpeting. Instead was old worn out filthy carpeting that we were afraid to walk on bare foot. Laundry Facilities were advertised but we did not see them nor were they offered to us. We had two smoke detectors in our room both of which were inoperable. I had to threaten to call the local fire inspector before I was given a new detector for my room. Who knows how many other rooms have inoperable detectors. The bathroom and kitchen area were filthy and unclean. Again, we bought food to cook in the kitchen but were afraid to cook on the stove or use any of the pots, pans or plates etc. They advertise a kitchen with a refrigerator and stove. That is mis-leading. Upon check-in we found out it is a mini-fridge and a small two burner electric stove. The tub was so disgusting that we had my daughter stand up in the tub and poured water on her to clean her because we didn't want her to sit in the tub. My in-laws room had no working GFCI outlet in the bathroom, no working light in the bedroom, and a sink that would not drain in the bathroom and a shower curtain that was covered in mold. Shuffleboard also was advertised on the website. When we went to play, we found that the surface was severely cracked and uneven with the painted surface peeling rendering it unplayable. A heated pool was advertised but it was not working and no attempt was made to fix it. The gates to the pool area were not working. I was afraid a child could wonder out of his/her room and enter the pool area. The manager was hardly outside during our stay. When she was, she was the nastiest, rudest person I ever met. The maid service was the worst I have ever seen. They ran the vacuum for two seconds in each room, sometimes not even using it. The towels were old and worn out. I had to ask for toilet paper. The first time I ever had to do such a thing. All in all we were duped into thinking we were staying at a nice clean friendly motel but the Eden Roc is anything but. Had there been any vacancies elsewhere that weekend we would not have stayed there. Needless to say we will NEVER return nor would we ever recommend The Eden Roc to anyone.

Wow where should I begin??? I'd like to start off with saying Stay Away!!! I arrived at wildwood and had to go check in. From the outside it looks ok but once inside I saw I made a mistake. The only good part about the motel was the pool everything else was horrible. U could not leave the sink on for longer then 5 seconds before it was flooded (Seriously). With so many rooms there was only one maid. The beds were bad the mattresses were hard and they were positioned on a wooden frame that didn't belong to the beds, if U laid on one side the other would tip. Wall outlets had no covers so I suggest U keep ur kids away. Paint job sucked there are yellow walls or atleast partly there are white spots everywhere and the bed side wall is only half painted and so many long cracks on every wall. On top of all of that the owner was the most rude person I have ever met. After staying there my mind is made up, I will never return to the EDEN ROC!!!
