“Very nice renovation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I've stayed at the Hanover Marriott on a number of occasions. The last visit was in the midst of a signficant renovation, thus it was a bit messy and inconvenient. However, the renovation is now complete and it's turned this property into a very attractive hotel. The lobby is friendly and inviting and some of the finished touchs, like the frosted glass counters at check-in are very modern and attractive. The rooms are the typically well appointed Marriott rooms and the staff is friendly and accommodating The restaurant serving the buffet breakfast provided a typical, but very tasty seletion of breakfast items. All in all, a nice place to stay and do business. It's now a more luxurious location with the renovation.

“Above average business hotel”

I would've given this Marriott 3.5 stars if I could have. It gives off a very hip vibe without being uncomfortable, and I definitely appreciated that.
PROS: the lobby and immediately adjacent areas are just beautiful. There is a great fireplace and seating, artsy lighting, very open and bright. Check in and check out were smooth and painless (I'm a Marriott Rewards elite member so they tend to be a little nicer).
My room was clean and well stocked. The usual BBW bath products, nothing special. The bedding was comfy (no bedbugs I did check), decent amount of towels.
I was working in my room a lot and didn't feel like leaving to have it made up, and they never hassled me about that. (believe it or not sometimes they do)
My colleague had a paid room upgrade and we had breakfast together in the concierge lounge the first morning. Their breakfast set up was nicer than average for Marriott, and the restaurant choices in this hotel are limited, so the upgrade would be worth the cost.
The fitness center is very clean and nice with new machines, but nothing else really. There is a locker room with showers (but no towels, no soap, no sauna, no lockers).
CONS: the public areas are brutally cold, and no one seems to care. The indoor pool area is just lovely and I tried to sit there with a book one evening, but had to leave after about 10 minutes because it was SO-OOO cold even just to sit there clothed never mind to swim. What a terrible shame. If you think to stay here with kids because there's a pool forget it.
The restaurant service was horrible. To be seated, we actually had to go to hotel check in and ask. Three times my colleague had to leave the table to find someone with requests. Turns out the lone waitress was running around as fast as she could, the Giants playoff game was on and the place was just jamming. This was really poor planning on management's part...would you not staff up for a Giants playoff game in this area of the country??? hello.
Another con, the location is bad. If there is any way to enter off route 10 from the opposite direction I was never able to find it, even with iMap. Had to make a few illegal turns on this super highway and cut through a parking lot (much cursing involved). I don't know if they can petition for a traffic light--but how about some signage at least ("Marriott turn next left")!!!
The room service menu is limited to the EXACT same choices as in the downstairs pub restaurant. For me this was a negative because I was on my own most of the trip so I ate in and some variety would've been nice. (But everything came up hot, tasty and on time.)
Last item: the heating in the room was hard to balance out, and it was also loud firing up overnight.

Yes I would stay here again when in this area. I'm not very demanding when it comes to business hotels and the above negatives I consider minor, but working on them would improve an otherwise pleasant property.

“Nice hotel, except for the food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed here in December 2011; property is beautiful, rooms are gorgeous, clean and comfortable.
Breakfast offered in Seeds is terrible... buffet food looks and tastes like it's mass-cooked and left somewhere hot, until breakfast is over. Bacon is incredibly salty and low quality, eggs are obviously liquid bulk, cooked in hydrogenated oil and unseasoned. Omelet station not much better. After two days I went out to a local diner for breakfast.
Auld Shebeen Irish pub atmosphere, staff and beverages are great, but not the food. Ate here 3 nights (dinner w/clients also staying in the hotel) before deciding to go out for dinner during remainder of stay. The hot dishes (stew, shepherd's pie) taste like TV dinners or out of a can. Soups have no flavor; onion soup is overpowered by too much dried thyme. Strip steak was bitter and had a mealy texture from marinade and sauce was obviously powdered with no meat flavor.
Overall, food at the hotel is not fresh and shows a lack of care in preparation. Menus seriously lack creativity or inventiveness. I don't often say things this frankly, but the chef in charge needs to do a much better job, or should be replaced with someone who's more food-focused.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms as far from the elevator as possible to avoid noise from the atrium.

“Your expectations will be exceeded!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I have been staying at the Hanover Marriott for over a year now. It has undergone a wonderful renovation last year and is quite an eye pleaser. The hotel is very clean, quiet, and the beds are the absolute best. You will not find a more greeting and helpful staff, from the front desk team - to the maintenance team - to the restaurant team, everyone will make you welcome during your stay. You can be assured that you will have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. If I were to even try to list all the names of the staff that have made my time away from home special, I would certainly run out of space. The folks that work there, truly enjoy there jobs and the opportunity to meet your needs.

Room Tip: I have literally stayed on every floor except the first floor. So for sure 2 and above are good choi...

“Return trip was just as good...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel again, a year following their renovation. Once again, our room was very clean(I thoroughly checked for bed bugs because of reports(possibly false) on bedbugregistry.com) and the staff was very accommodating. I requested a refrigerator, double beds and a quiet room. All of these requests were honored. The restaurants were crowded but that's because there was a dance competition there and a lot of people were seeking to be served at the same time. Service was definitely spotty at Seeds on Saturday night but really good at the Irish Pub on Sunday (when everyone checked out!). I hadn't requested late check out and was told that it was $10 per hour after the allotted check out time. I checked out on time! I was happy with my overall stay and will return next year.
