“NOT a hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

This seems more like a place for people who lost their apartments, are between jobs, etc. The Manhattan views are nice from this area, but the area itself is not the place to be. The "hotel" itself is disgusting. We went out and bought our own towels, cheap sheets, shower shoes etc. so there goes the savings on the rate vs a real hotel. Spilled water and when I went to dab it up the cloth was BLACK. I missed the fact there is a communal bathroom. We were woken up by cops our first morning. Went to park for the night, which is just on the street wherever you can find and there were two cars broken into. And Alex, the owner, is very unhelpful, uncaring, and can't really speak english. Stay away!

“A bizarre experience, awful service but special views across the to Manhattan”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

We stayed here for the last two nights of our 5 week trip to the States. It was affordable, given that we skint by this stage, and despite the terrible reviews we gave it a try. The owner, however, was easily the most unhelpful person we'd ever encountered on our travels. Other staff spoke no English and seemed exasperated because we couldn't converse in Spanish. The room was OK, clean bed sheets at least but the shared bathroom facilities were filthy. Our neighbours didn't help matters by rowing continually into the night, the sound of smashing glass and swearing left us fearing for our safety...no exaggeration. The one saving grace was the magnificent view across to Manhattan...this was something special and despite the hotel being shabby at best and the quality of customer service terrible we left with mixed feelings. We couldn't recommend the hotel but the location made up, in some way, for it.

“used condom on floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

I have traveled far and wide and stayed in some pretty modest and simple places...even some hostels in Europe that were very questionable...but this place takes the cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! horrible horrible horrible....

The man running this crap hole is rude, dispectful and would not care less about the well-being of his customers. There were no elevators, but only a skinny, old, run-down staircase....we drug our stuff up 5 flights of stairs, which normally would not be a problem but let me just explain what about our destination for the night....

The sheets were GREASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......nasty...there was one bathroom per floor, so we had to share this nasty bathroom that had no lock and the light was burnt out....(which was prob a blessing in disguise because if i had to look at the filth i was surrounded by i would have thrown up)....
The rude horrible guy refused to give us any more towels but one thin dirty towel. HIS WORDS EXACTLY WERE..."You want clean towels you go to the hilton, No interest, no coffee, no alarm clock, no elevator, no towels!!!!"
My brother had to stand guard at the door while i quickly showered.
We slept in our clothes and on top of the covers.....it was so nasty...and there were bedbugs...
We paid for two nights so we had the pleasure of returning the next night as well...

We spend the next day sightseeing in New York...all day or as long as we could take it because we knew what were were coming home to...or do we????????????????

We walked into our horrible awful distgustingly stinky, bed bug ridden room to find ...............A USED CONDOM ON THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....as if everything i mentioned above is not enough....they rent the damn rooms out by the hour..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i really could not believe my eyes

DO NOT EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL....EVER....WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE

“Urine on the floor”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2009

This hotel is extremely dirty, there were urine on the bathroom floor, the bath tub was blocked so there water couldn't go down. It was -3c and all I got was a thin piece of blanket, they refuse to give me any extra. Also I've heard what i think was prostitutes screaming from the room, it was really loud at 3am in the morning. You may be saving some money but unless you are prepared to change rooms constantly (electricity fault, loud neighbour etc) you better go somewhere else. If you do decide to stay, make sure bring a pair of sandal as you don't want to touch the urine in the bathroom. This hotel is in ruin and the owner doesn't care.

“Do not stay in this 'Hotel'”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2008
1

Myself & my husband found this place on 'cheaphotels.co.uk' and sincerely wish we hadn't.
After searching for places to stay in NY, it was a much cheaper alternative to stay in NJ, and still very close. We were visiting Canada from the UK so this was a trip within a holiday so we were looking for cheapness.

This hotel is sick.
We are not fussy & we have travelled a lot. We are happy for things to be a little rough around the edges - but that doesn't even come close.

The bed had not been made from a previous guest. There were hairs in there, stains and it was crumpled and clearly recently slept in. A bug crawled out from the pillow confirming that we would not be getting under the sheets.
We took off the disgusting outer layer and slept on top on the sheets. I used a jumper for a pillow as I preferred my head not to touch theirs. Filthy.

The room absolutely stank. The floor was covered in cigarette burns and was disgusting.

When we arrived and got up to our room, we stood staring at one another in disbelief wondering what we should do. I didn't want to stay but we had paid for all four nights.

Our door looked like it had been previously shot at and broken into. It was metal and bent and wouldn't shut easily. When we went to sleep we put things in front of the door.

We have absolutely no problems sharing a bathroom with others, but this was honestly the most disgustingly filthy bathroom I have ever witnessed. It was not clean at all, had dirt everywhere, hairs everywhere and the less you came into contact with the better. The base of the bath was mucky and no-one could rinse it as the shower head is fixed to the wall.

When we got to our room, my husband went back downstairs and asked one of the meat-heads at reception for a towel - we had been given only one thin crappy old towel. He reluctantly & moodily gave him one - it was dirty with a big yellow stain on it. Gross.

Both the guys on reception were very rude, arrogant and spoke little English - we constantly wondered what they did all day. They certainly didn't change the sheets in the rooms - however I was glad for them not to enter our room at all.

We briefly considered complaining but didn't know where to start - what do you say to people who even present that kind of place to stay - they obviously wouldn't understand where they had gone wrong!

Another reason we weren't sure about complaining, was because we didn't trust the two guys on reception not to organise something to get you back - if they even cared?

This is the worst place we have ever stayed in our lives and even people who are happy to rough it and traveling on a budget, I would still advise going anywhere else instead.

  • Liked — Leaving it. We liked nothing about it at all/
  • Disliked — Everything was a low point. It was unbelievable that it is running.
