Our trip was in May of '06. We were going to stay one night for a convention. When we got there the man behind the counter was rude and basically threw the room key at us. His, "You stay outside." was a bit misleading. He meant that our room was directly on the street. We opened the door and were shocked. There was what looked like a bullet hole in the door that hadn't even been covered up. It basically gave anyone walking by a peep into our room. The bed spreads had someone's smeared makeup all over them and there were white stains on them as well. The bathroom was disgusting and the kitchen area was a joke. It looked like someone had slaughtered a calf in the fridge, not to mention the mouse droppings and bugs everywhere. We demanded our money back and when that failed we called the credit card company and had them stop payment. We found a more expensive, but way better Comfort Inn to stay in.

Yes it was awful. Filthy. Stinky. Nothing was clean. BUT there was no other place to stay so near to Manhattan with that price. So if you are there for a couple of days and getting in the hotel just for sleeping, it's fine.
As long as you are too tired or drunk, you won't recognize the dirt on your sheets. Do no take a shower, do not use the toilet, you'll be fine.

This seems more like a place for people who lost their apartments, are between jobs, etc. The Manhattan views are nice from this area, but the area itself is not the place to be. The "hotel" itself is disgusting. We went out and bought our own towels, cheap sheets, shower shoes etc. so there goes the savings on the rate vs a real hotel. Spilled water and when I went to dab it up the cloth was BLACK. I missed the fact there is a communal bathroom. We were woken up by cops our first morning. Went to park for the night, which is just on the street wherever you can find and there were two cars broken into. And Alex, the owner, is very unhelpful, uncaring, and can't really speak english. Stay away!

We stayed here for the last two nights of our 5 week trip to the States. It was affordable, given that we skint by this stage, and despite the terrible reviews we gave it a try. The owner, however, was easily the most unhelpful person we'd ever encountered on our travels. Other staff spoke no English and seemed exasperated because we couldn't converse in Spanish. The room was OK, clean bed sheets at least but the shared bathroom facilities were filthy. Our neighbours didn't help matters by rowing continually into the night, the sound of smashing glass and swearing left us fearing for our safety...no exaggeration. The one saving grace was the magnificent view across to Manhattan...this was something special and despite the hotel being shabby at best and the quality of customer service terrible we left with mixed feelings. We couldn't recommend the hotel but the location made up, in some way, for it.
