“Good choice for accessibility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Location was the top reason for choosing this hotel, and we'll probably use it again, if only for the superb service; more on that later. That said, there were a few issues. We are older & asked for an accessible room which had advantages & some drawbacks. Everything is on wheelchair level. Hanger bar in closet, hooks on bathroom door--everything! Which is a bit hard on the able partner--or in this case both of us.
The shower was very well thought out & even though it looked like it might, it never overflowed into the bathroom; good engineering there.
The nightstand phone could not be coaxed to work even though we made sure it was plugged in. We were too tired to deal with it, but found later that it probably needed to be coordinated with the desk phone. Not something intuitively obvious.
The beds were extremely comfortable, with great pillow options.
Unfortunately, my husband & I had conflicting ideas on a comfortable heat level. I found out the next morning that, while I had gotten up twice to turn the heat down, he had done the same-- to turn it up. This resulted in some odd drafts, but I can't blame it on the hotel!
The place may be old, but seemed in very good trim when we arrived. Lobby beautifully decorated for Christmas, etc. We got in late but were given a nice meal in the area off the bar as the restaurant had closed by 9 on a Tuesday night. The menu was not large, but had plenty of choices for all ages & appetites. Two friends who had driven us into town, joined us for dinner & greatly enjoyed their burgers. One of the regular features of their bar menu is "milk & cookies", which tickled us enough to ask for some. By this time it was almost 10pm, and our server could not find any in the kitchen, however (!) he went to his cupboard & produced a big zip lock bag of home made chocolate chip cookies, made for him by a female acquaintance (girlfriend? auntie?). English was not his first language, so we never figured out the exact source, but they were very yummy!
Breakfast buffet was included in our room rate deal & it was sumptuous-an on hand cook to prepare eggs in any style, pastries, yogurt, dry cereal, oatmeal, fruits, etc., etc.
On the whole, we'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms with odd numbers on the higher floors, have a nice view of the river--pretty especially at...

“A decent place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I stay here when I have business in Trenton, and while there's no particular pizzazz about the place to beckon me back each time, it is a good decent place to stay, and conveniently located to downtown. I find the rooms clean, comfortable, and quiet. My only criticism is that I've found service in the restaurant a bit uneven especially at breakfast, when the staff is distracted and unattentive at times. There aren't many options for Trenton hotels but at least this is a decent place and well-priced for the quality.

Room Tip: For me, being on the second floor with the health club is a plus, as long as you're on the oppos...

“Older hotel with terrific service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011 via mobile

This is nice hotel. It is older and looks like it is worn down. The edges of the elevator carpet were worn and dirty. The front glass doors rattled with being opened too many times. The rooms were clean and decent. What ever the hotel lacks in physical attributes, it makes up for in service from its staff.

This hotel seems to cater to locals and non-business travelers.

So, nothing to write home about but not too bad.

“Lots of Noise”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

I recently traveled to Trenton for an event. We stayed at the hotel for two nights, Friday and Saturday, October 21st-23rd. Let me tell you I have never been to a hotel where the "partying occurs" by young people into the early hours of the morning. On Saturday morning I complained to the front desk staff and they said, they knew nothing about it and offered to "move" me to another room if it continued the second night. Well, it did. I called the front desk twice. Each time I was told that a security guard would be up to "check" on things. The noise continued until 3:30 am, yelling in hallways, doors closing, total party atmosphere. At one point a male tried to use his room key to get into my room and even knocked on the door at 2:30 am supposedly looking for someone. I left the hotel on Sunday morning, with no sleep and extremely aggravated that nothing was done to stop the noise.

“Surprisingly nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I am pretty familiar with the Trenton area. I'm sorry to say that most of it isn't very nice. However, the Trenton Marriott at Lafayette Yard is actually quite nice. This is easily a 3-star hotel and would compare favorably with any other 3-star chain.

The front desk clerks were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and well appointed. Okay, the TV wasn't a flat screen, but big deal. Our bathroom was also very clean. Overall, there was little one could complain about.

Minor issues:

The parking garage costs $13/night and it's a little spooky. There are no signs showing you where to park for the Marriott once you get in the garage. Just park near the elevator at the end of the parking deck and then take the elevator to the "Lobby" level.

The sway bar (the lock on my room door) was partially broken. This gives me an uneasy feeling in any hotel and Trenton is certainly no exception. I did report this to the front desk, so hopefully this has been fixed already.

Would I stay here again? Well, at $89 for a AAA rate (plus the parking charge), I think it's a very good deal. I would definitely stay here again for this price.

PS Be sure to visit DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies restaurant (there are 3 of them) when you're in Trenton!
