If first impressions matter most, then our first of the this hotel is characterized by the shameful behavior of the night desk receptionist.
Myself, my elderly parents, my wife and toddler arrived at 10:30pm after seven hours of driving just looking to check in as quickly as possible so we could get some sleep. My mother, who wanted to pay for everyone, went to the reception and told the man behind the desk we wanted to check-in. My mother went to see the rooms to see if we'd need one room or two, and when she came back, the receptionist was speaking to someone else. She waited for fifteen minutes while the receptionist didn't acknowledge her presence, nor suggest that she have a seat in the lobby, nor apologize for keeping her waiting so long, nor say 'I'll be right with you'. Nothing.
Frustrated, my mother asked him if he was going to check us in, or if we should just leave. The receptionist said we should leave, and an argument ensued, after which the receptionist accused my mother of being disrespectful. The receptionist at that point did the only smart thing he'd done through the whole interaction, and handed us off to the night manager, who handled us with the professionalism and respect that is expected of one who works in the hospitality industry. The night manager, Nabil, is the only reason I give the hotel two stars instead of one.
The receptionist is lucky my father-in-law, a retired hotel manager, isn't running this place because he'd have been fired on the spot.
Other than the interaction with the receptionist, our experience here is on par with other 2-3 star hotels.
The breakfast was decent, nothing to write home about, but a little better than what I expect to for a complimentary breakfast from a 2-3 star hotel. Arrive early if you want to avoid a wait for the lone Belgian waffle maker.
The place does have good internet, with four different access points. The bandwidth runs as fast as you'd expect if you were in your own home.
The rooms are a bit on the small side, especially when it comes to the bathroom. I didn't appreciate the slow drain in the tub. It gives the impression that the plumbing is not maintained well when your ankles bathe in your own shower water run-off. The toilet paper roll holder is a bit hard to find, as it is mounted behind the wood frame holding up the counter top. I also found the beds to be uncomfortable, but that's a subjective thing and my parents liked the beds.
There are a two other hotels a stones throw away from this one, so I suggest comparing rates and ratings with Fairfield Inn and the Courtyard Marriott if you are planning to stay in this area. As long as you don't have to deal with the individual we dealt with, this is a reasonable option for budget-minded travelers.
