My cousin and I stayed with our children (ages 13, 9, 6 and 3) at the Luna Mar for one night...we would have stayed for two, but it rained. We had rented a small house on the same block as the Luna Mar last year and every day when we walked past the motel, we agreed that we would try it out the following year (no cleaning, no having to travel with our own towels and sheets, and a pool). Anyway, we rented an apartment at the Luna Mar. It was in the back building and it was very nice. The front building second floor rooms would have an ocean view. For those of you who have never traveled to the Jersey Shore, you should know that there are no luxurious hotels in the area. There are small older MOTELS. A good find is one that is clean and in a good location and Luna Mar was both. The room was nothing fancy, a basic room, but very clean. There were two bedrooms, each with a double bed, a small bathroom with enough towels. We also had a kitchen which was helpful with the kids. There were dishes, silverware and appliances (toaster, coffeepot, blender, can opener, bottle opener), but we didn't use any, so I don't know how well they worked. When I made the reservation, the man I spoke to said that we could check in early if the room was ready, but that either way we could pick up the beach badges (which they provide) and possibly get a parking spot. He also said he would put a cot in the room for us. We arrived at 11:00. The room was ready, he gave us the keys, the badges ($40 deposit in case lost) and a parking tag. The cot was in the room with sheets and pillows. The beach is directly accross the street from the motel and is very clean and nice. We did use the pool. It was very clean and a comfortable temperature. Motel staff came around often to remove used towels and leave new ones and clean anything that needed cleaning. There was an information card in the room that said the pool closed at 6, but the kids stayed in until well past 8:00 and no one said a word. The boardwalk amusements and restuarants are three short blocks away from the motel. Overall, I would recommend the motel, but you have to take it for what it is, a motel. Nothing fancy, but clean, nice staff and amenities (beach badges, parking spot, bagels and coffee in the morning) and close to all the fun.
