I booked this Holiday Inn over the internet because it was convenient to my business appointment in Bergen County (and reasonably priced).
To be blunt, I expected not to have a good stay at this hotel. In my home region (southeastern USA) many of the Holiday Inns have suffered from a lack of renovation and investment. The newer Holiday Inn Express hotels are all very clean and comfortable, but the traditional Holiday Inns vary widely in quality. Therefore my expectations were somewhat low.
The only bad thing about my stay was that only one of the two elevators was functioning. Another guest told me that the situation was the same last year when he was in town for a meeting. Considering that this is a tower hotel with no guest rooms on the ground floor, it can take a while (as much as 10-15 minutes) to get up/down during the busy breakfast hours.
Other than that, I had a great stay. My room was large, up-to-date, and very clean. It was a true non-smoking room, as I had requested at the time of booking. I had every amenity that I could have wanted (a/c, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, luggage rack, desk, etc.). The bathroom had a big selection of complimentary toiletries. The management had provided a free cocktail voucher and a couple of "welcome goodies" that took me totally by surprise. (I had a dinner appointment in Manhattan, and I had to run the next morning, so I never made it to the hotel's restaurant or bar.)
In terms of location, the hotel is right next to I-80, so you'll want to run the fan in your room just to drown out traffic noise. But the location is somewhat convenient for driving to Manhattan via the GW Bridge.
Overall I had a very pleasant stay and would certainly stay there again. The room far exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations. I work for a European travel company, so I have inspected many hotels -- and this was a good stay.
