Traveling for business and came across this hotel on priceline. After I booked it, I became alarmed after reading the reviews. I always try to be honest and unbiased with my reviews, and I will be now. I had an upsetting experience. First, let me say I didn't find the area to be objectionable or I really didn't have any security concerns as noted in some of the reviews, so perhaps they've enhanced monitors in the lot. I have a luxury vehicle and was a bit apprehensive about a break-in, but all was well. The town this hotel is located in is a decent, middle-class suburban town. The hotel is very close to the highways and GSParkway, however it's not problematic.
What's more problematic is the condition of the hotel. It's an old hotel and looks as though it hasn't been refurbished or renovated in YEARS. That may not be a problem for many business travelers, providing the price is right and the hotel is very clean. Modern and flashy aren't always necessary for a few night business stay. The problem is the cleanliness. One night I was up working late and attempted to go to bed around midnight. Fortunately, I glanced down at the pillow and noticed two bed bugs crawling around the area. I jumped up and called the front desk requesting to be moved immediately, explaining what was happening.
They moved me to another room. I checked the mattress thoroughly and didn't see any signs of an infestation in the new room. When I spoke to the manager the next day, she was somewhat non-chalant about it, although in fairness I'm not certain what the proper tone should be since I've never encountered this situation. I do think they should accomodate guests in a better manner. When I asked what happens to the room, I was told the procedure was to have the room inspected and not given to any new guest for 10-days. I wasn't aware whether that happened or not. I did mention that I had to take all of my clothes out of the suitcase and wash them immediately. I was given a roll of quarters. I've never encountered this in a hotel, and while I know bed bugs can infiltrate even the finest hotels (they don't necessarily discriminate), I'm not certain whether the issue is addressed properly in this particular hotel.
The rooms do not have a microwave or mini-fridge, just a small coffee maker and hair dryer in the bathroom. There is a decent fitness room with modern equipment and an indoor pool, which is clean, but very worn. The chipped paint around the perimeter of the pool has been painted over quite a few times. The lounge chairs are very old, but basically the area is clean. The problem with trying to use the pool is they rent it out to outside swim instructors and at any given time, you may be sharing the pool with a group of splashing kids doing their lessons. Not in the least relaxing.
Hallways are dark and somewhat gloomy, and the silk plants haven't been dusted in quite a while, there was thick dust on the leaves. My advice is pass up this hotel. The location is very convenient for access to NYC or northern NJ business, however unless they completely renovate and clean, it will be hard to continue.
