DO NOT STAY HERE
My company paid for me to stay here without realizing how horrid this hotel is.

I walked into my first room to find hair in the shower, on my pillows, and even in the refrigerator. Yes, there was someone else's hair in the refrigerator. The counter had not been cleaned because there was a brown sticky substance all over it. Anything that gets wet was rusted. This includes the faucets, range, shower, etc. The microwave was also dirty as was the outside of the refrigerator. Neither had ever seen a wet cloth. It looked as if someone had thrown food at the walls and let it run down because there were many different brown/yellow spots on the walls.

They also provided silverware and pots/pans. As you can imagine, those weren't clean either.

I immediately tore the comforter off the bed because I knew it probably hadn't been cleaned. As soon as I did this, I noticed it was stained as well. The pillows had dust, dirt, and small curly hair on them. After realizing this, I was mortified.

At this point, I was really hoping my room just hadn't been cleaned so I called the front desk and requested a new room. She showed me two other rooms which were just as bad as the first. Nothing in this hotel is clean, even the clothes hangers they provide are covered in dirt and dust.

I called a cab and went to the Holiday Inn Express, which is wonderful. If you're staying in Ramsey, spend the extra money and go here. http://hiexpress.com/ramsey-mahwah Everyone at the Holiday Inn is really nice and it's CLEAN, a five letter word that the Extended Stay doesn't know the definition of.

DO NOT stay at the Extended Stay if you like hotel rooms that are clean.
DO stay at the Extended Stay if you enjoy other people's hair and would like to be eaten bed bugs. (To my knowledge they don't have them, but it really wouldn't surprise me.)

Cozy little room with a serviceable kitchen (plenty of franchise restaurants, local diners, and a full service grocery store in the immediate area). Friendly and pleasant staff. I am staying in the area while doing consulting work and this hotel has become my home away from home. I feel safe and comfortable here and my cat is welcome. Yes, the bed is a little hard but I have a recliner, desk, a dining table and wireless in my room all at a terrific economy rate. If you are looking for a huge cushy bed with eight pillows and cute little "designer" toiletries in the bathroom, then keep driving. If you are looking for a great value and friendly staff then pull on in.

I need to preface my review by ssaying that I've stayed at other Extended Stay Hotels before. This was one of the worst.

The hotel is right off the highway and I mean right off. Be sure you are ready to stop and pull in the parking lot.

The woman behind the counter at check in looked like she'd just finished a carton of cigarettes and sounded like it too. Clearly customer service isn't a top priority for Extended Stay, especially at this location.

I guess I would have to admit my room was clean, but clean by Extended Stay standards, so be sure to take it down a notch.

The entire time I was in the hotel, there was always a terrible odor in the hallways. I put towels on the door cracks to keep it out of my room. As usual, the bed was hard as a rock so don't expect a good nights sleep. Even though my room was near the back of the property I could hear the traffic at night.

I'd only recommend this hotel if you are incredibly broke or need an emergency place to stay. They say you get what you pay for and if you can only pay $30, then here's your place !

I read prior reviews of the hotel and was skeptical. However, it appears management recently stepped up and renovated much of the hotel, including carpeting, fixtures, furniture and fresh paint. For the money, it's a very good value. Minutes from a couple of train stations (the Ramsey station is less than 5 minutes on Rt 17 N) that can get you into New York in less than an hour. Valuable for professionals spending considerable time in the city, but don't want to choke down $100 dumps or $200-300/night decent rooms. Bring your own snacks. There's a fridge, mic and stove top. I'll stay here again.
