Tired is probably the best word I could use to describe this hotel. I knew from reviews it wouldn't be a great stay, but the location was best of available options for my business trip.
On the plus side, the location is terrific - the only hotel in downtown Princeton, which perhaps explains why they don't feel the need to invest in maintaining things as much as they would if they had closer competitors. The staff also offered prompt and friendly service - during check in/out and from room service.
On the negative side, it's just in bad need of sprucing up. The hallway carpets, room walls, bedding and bath all looked like it had been many years since they had been renovated. The room was clean but worn around the edges, particularly the bathroom. There is virtually no soundproofing - I could hear every door opening and closing along the hall and overheared a conversation in the next room which didn't seem to be overly loud.
My television had terrible feedback on several channels, making the sound garbled and forcing me to change stations.
I tried room service for dinner due to a late arrival and found the menu pretty uninspired and my grilled salmon overcooked and bland.
In future, I'd deal with the extra commute time and stay further out from downtown.
