“Wonderful service can't quite overcome building limitations”

This hotel has one thing in its favor: the service. The front desk was always willing to help, and items requested arrived in minutes every time. They were universally good listeners and management stays on top of problems and complaints, as evidenced by a follow-up call we received after our complaint on Saturday night.

The hotel itself is showing its age. It is built around an atrium, with lovely plants and a koi pond. The restaurant is in this atrium, and restaurant smells and noises fill the atrium when busy. The pool is off the front of the hotel (though there is a way around going to the front door to reach it) and is warm and lovely, with towels always plentiful (and warm...so they are replaced often!). The rooms themselves are definitely the downside to the hotel. The walls are paper-thin, the doors do not fill the door frames and so every little sound in the hallway drifts into the rooms, the wallpaper is peeling, the carpet is worn, and the furniture has been oddly modified to fit the new TVs the hotel bought. Drawer space is nearly non-existent, but there were plenty of hangers in the closet. Our king room had a very comfortable bed, a chair with ottoman, a desk and chair (not a desk chair, more like a dining room chair), the TV stand with three shallow drawers, a glass side table, two nightstands with one shallow, unusable drawer, a closet, and a bathroom.

On the first night, we were placed next to some young men who were attending a wedding being held at the hotel. They were loud and obnoxious and were asked to quiet down twice but to no avail. Upon mentioning this at the front desk (to make sure these guests were leaving and we did not have to move to another room), the manager on duty made sure that we understood that he took full responsibility for the poor placement of our quiet family next to these men, made some concessions for our poor night's sleep, and apologized profusely. We received a follow-up call from the manager on Monday, which was very kind. They obviously take complaints seriously.

The ancillary services at this hotel are quite expensive. The hotel menu is so expensive as to be almost funny; wifi costs $10/day, the water bottles in the room are $5 a piece! There are lots of places to eat in the area, so that's not really a problem.

Overall, would we stay again? Probably. We really appreciated the great service, so if we are in the area again, we will consider staying there again.

Room Tip: ask to be away from groups, it's a large hotel and they should be able to accommodate you.

“Great to crush at, dont stay here for more than a couple of days.”

The environment and front desk staff is good. Dont stay here for more than a couple of days otherwise u'll start noticing the low quality maintainance, low quality food and low quality staff(the front desk is okay) Do yourself a favor and eat out, there's a ton of places to eat close by. The food is methodical and bland its great to eat just once unless ur taste buds are dead. The place totally runs on a shoe string budget and i can only here because my company pays for it :o

“Visiting Princeton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Purchased via Priceline, so I suppose it was worth the money spent. BUT, no HD television signal, despite having a HD set (weird!). They want $10/day for wifi, $5 for one bottle of water, Decor from the 80's (but clean and a decent bathroom).

“Definitely recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Hotel is right on Route 1, but set far enough off the road that you don't even notice. Check in was smooth. Atrium is beautiful and very relaxing. Room was large and clean, even had a little balcony which would have been nice if we had stayed during a warmer time of year. Only a couple of negatives. First of all, there were 2 large bottles of water on the desk, but I didn't notice til it was too late that they were $5 a pop - thought that was a little cheesy for an upscale hotel. It's also a pet peeve of mine when a hotel charges for wifi - should be free. Bathroom was large but probably could use some new wallpaper and fixtures. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. My girlfriend likes to sleep in and we frequently asked the maid to come back later when she came to clean the room. Great location: Princeton U is 5 minutes up the road; NJ transit rail is a few blocks away for a day trip into NYC.

“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

My wife and i booked this trip to watch our daughter run at a track meet at Princeton. We went to the meet first, then headed to the hotel to crash. Once we got there and saw the atrium and koi ponds, we spent most of our time walking around the hotel. An added benefit was that we got a room overlooking the atrium. The room was very clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the atrium.
