“New years eve at Regency House”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Went to Regency House to celebrate New Years Eve. Big mistake. We were at table 15. Was supposed to start at 8:00 but no food was out until 8:20. Hot h'orderves never reached our table although at 8:45 I asked two or three waiters about it. Just as cocktail hour started we were brought a tray with 4 bread sandwiches ... Nothing hot... For 8 people. Had to wait 35 minutes for a drink at the bar waiter did come around about 9:30 to see if we wanted something to drink. Then evening ended at 12:05 due to fire alarm. We feel we are owed some type of compensation. Evening was not as advertised. We were a party of 8. Very bad event

“Had a lovely stay !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

When we checked into our rooms at the Regency we had a problem with the location of the room. Mary, Asst. General Manager, handled the situation immediately with grace . Our 2 rooms were always spotless, plenty of towels and toiletries. Staff always courteous and well informed to assist their guests with directions, restaurant info, and shopping/entertainment . A fantastic hot breakfast every morning in one of the ball rooms. Hot coffee in the lobby from the early morning hours into the late evening hours. A nice warm welcome from the cold evenings. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to staying at this hotel year after year, close to my sisters home in northern Jersey.

Room Tip: This hotel offers a business suite for a little more money. Sitting area with couch, chair , fridge...

“Horrible remodling noise from 3AM onwards... Avoid for now!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Noise started at 3 AM -- people moving / dropping heavy objects in room upstairs several times per hour. At 8 AM the really bad noise started -- 10 loud hammer blows on the upstairs floor every 3 or 4 minutes -- perhaps setting floor tiles or the like. Unbelievable! How could the management let this happen?

Except for the enormous horrible re-modeling noise problem, the room itself was very nice. Large room with sliding divider between living room and bedroom sections. Nice modern furnishings. Bed was comfortable. Sofa and sofa chair. Two 32" flat screen TVs. Fridge, microwave, ironing board. Nice work table. Clusters of 6 surge protected outlets at several places in room. Bath very nice. Jacuzzi tub. Nice wall heater in bath. Everything reasonably clean. Main heat/cooling unit worked well, though there did not seem to be a mode where the fan could run continuously while providing heat. Overall, this could be a very nice hotel someday.

Breakfast bar had wide range of options -- eggs, meats, pastries, cerial, juice, yogurt, fruit. Large room with lots of seating. Presentation was uninspired. I only tried the coffee which was OK.

Lots of eating and shopping nearby, but getting there is a little challenging. RT 23 is a divided highway, and the hotel can only be accessed from RT 23 north. Getting to even the closest establishments involves driving a mile or so, and using the "all turn" right lanes to make U-turns.

Security was oddly mixed. They were careful to xerox my driver's license at check-in. But rear entrances to the hotel were unlocked and completely unsecured; anyone could walk in and roam the hallways.

Card key to room stopped working by 10 AM for a 11 AM checkout. There was also considerable noise from maids knocking loudly on neighboring doors starting at 9 AM and yelling "front desk!" Though this hardly mattered since I was awake from the remodeling noise already.

I would summarize that the rooms are very, very nice. But management issues would prevent me from staying here again (remodling noise from 3 AM onwards, unsecured rear entrances, card keys stopped working, maids knocking loudly on doors hours before checkout). Avoid for now!!!!

“Needs a lot of work”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Hotel was flooded in the heavy August rains with the higest flood level ever: about 3 1/2 - 4 ft in the ground floor. We were there for a reunion so I did not choose the place and would have preferred someplace else. They had just reopened 2 weeks before and were still replacing carpet and making repairs on the 1st floor; no rooms were usuable on the 1st floor, only the 2nd floor. There is not an elevator for general use although you can use what appears to be a luggage elevator but it is very small: 1 person with luggage or maybe 2 people depending on your sizes; but you still have to negotiate some stairs to get to the rooms There was 1 bullb missing from a lamp and 2 others did not work in the outlets they were connected to, the refirgerator had no power, plus neither of the 2 phones worked all possibly due to the flooding. It took 3 hours for the 'maintenance' man to get it all working. Particularly troubling was he started to break off the grounding pin for a 3 pin plug so it could be put into a 2 pin outlet, before I told him "NO"-he ended up using a 2 outlet to 6 outlet adaptor. We had a suite and both LCD TV's did work as did the WiFi. The smoking rooms are at the far end of the hall but smoke odors 'filtered' into the non-smoking rooms and areas, after 2 days and nights all our clothes smelled of smoke. The towels are cleaned on site but also had a slight cigarette smoke odor, more so when dampened after use. On the plus side the beds were comfortable.

Access from NJ rte 23 is on the northbound side so if you are southbound, or returning to the hotel from the north you have to go another ~1/2 mile to a controlled turnaround point in order to access from the northbound side. Similar for leaving if you want to go southbound.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side are quieter as they face the river and wooded area. The west side faces the...

“If you're thinking of staying here, don't!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

I travel a lot for work and stay in a lot of hotels. Typically, I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I felt it a public duty to dissuade as many people as possible from staying at this hotel. Upon arrival, the aesthetic of the hotel appears to be fairly agreeable, with this continuing as you enter into the lobby. However, unfortunately, this is where it ends. As you move away from the lobby area towards the rooms, it becomes apparent that the general upkeep of the hotel requires serious attention, with this becoming readily apparent upon entry into the room. For example, all the furniture is very worn and damaged to some degree. With regards to the bathroom and in particular the hot tub, the less said, the better. Also, although the hotel doesn’t appear to be in a particularly undesirable location, it should be noted that the additional entrances to the hotel do not have any security measures enabled. The hotel also attempted on day three to tell me I needed to check out, despite them me showing my reservation. I was merely greeted with a “that’s weird; our reservation system does not show your reservation for today”; I was as equally perplexed, as I had booked through the Best Western Website. The only people I would advise to stay at the hotel are those that have no other recourse to stay at another location.
