I've never vacationed in Point Pleasant, so I made sure to do quite a bit of research before deciding on a place to stay. My fiancée and I finally decided on the Amethyst Beach Motel and stayed from 9/11 to 9/13.
Our first day was a little rough. We weren't given any instructions or login info regarding the internet so we couldn't connect initially. We called for assistance and the front desk called their IT guy. He told us they'd have us up and running in less than an hour and we were! Then, we discovered one of the lamps wasn't working. It was replaced with one that worked shortly thereafter.
After that, everything was fine, short of our charges. Location was great, staff was friendly and very helpful and we enjoyed the continental breakfast and heated pool. It was quiet, laid back and close to absolutely anything you could possibly want. We had a good time and while the staff was very accommodating, we had more interactions with them than I would have liked because of the issues we had with being charged incorrectly.
I called before booking to verify amenities and price and was quoted $89 a night. I was also told we wouldn't get charged for parking or any other fees (outside of taxes, which I understood) because it was off-season and during the week. After my fiancée called to book our room, he was given a different and higher total that included parking and a resort fee. Altogether, we spoke to hotel staff members between 6 and 8 times regarding this issue (including the 5 times I called after we returned home) and were given four different totals (and two price adjustments) before we ended up paying the price we were initially quoted.
I did enjoy the stay but I wouldn't call it hassle-free.
