This was our first trip to OC and we used TA to find a place to stay. The Flanders Hotel was a fantastic location, especially for first time visitors. The boardwalk is literally steps from the front door, as is one of the many amusement parks on the boardwalk.
We stayed in room 405, one bedroom unit with a king bed. The layout was very nice with the kitchen and bathroom located between the living room and bedroom. Must have thick walls because we didn't hear any other guests. However, the windows aren't air tight and noise from the boards and street goes well into the night. But it didn't bother us. Room 405 faced south so we overlooked 11th Street.
Room had a full sized pull put sofa with a decent (not great) mattress. The pull out chair mattress was pretty thin and very narrow. If you are planning to use these for adults who weigh more than 120 pounds, I'd recommend getting a two bedroom unit. King bed was comfortable (firm mattress). Huge closets. Two televisions (living room and bed room). Kitchen has nice fridge, microwave, dishwasher, cook top with 2 electric burners. If we had been staying longer, I would have packed more kitchen supplies, too (no paper towels provided).
We noticed that rooms facing the beach must have been pretty noisy because the amusement rides are right next to the hotel; I mean, I thought some of the rides may actually hit the hotel, they were so close.
Parking is across 11th Street which was very convenient. We were able to keep the beach stuff in the van and access it very quickly. You have in & out privileges at the lot but we walked everywhere.
We didn't eat at the restaurant but we walked to two places for breakfast (The Chatterbox and The Varsity Inn). Both were very good. Dinner on the boardwalk (Del's and Clancy's).
