“Awful discriminating experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

love o.c. coming here since i was little kid. staying down the street from this place for holiday weekend. stopped in to get info on staying another time. met at the door by old man with white hair. didn't let us in. asked about rooms-looking for basic info like how many bedrooms? bath? he looked at my friend and i looked up and down and told us the rooms are terrible then proceeded to shut the door in our faces. i'm sorry, i thought they were in business of renting rooms.
next day stopped by to report interaction. found woman around the same age in office next day. shared my concerns. her reponse was "well, i don't know what happened...we don't show rooms!" i saw it wasn't the old man, it was the mgmt/owner approach.
i guess this condo/motel is in the practice of picking and choosing who they rent to. i was shocked and disappointed by the way were treated. i will never do business with the tradewinds and i wouldn't recommend anyone patronize them either.

Room Tip: go throught a realtor on the ocean city chamber of commerce or by word of mouth recommendation

“Stay elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

Spend more money and stay elsewhere. I stayed here with my husband July 29–31, 2011. The best thing about this hotel is how it looks from the curb—it all went downhill from there. We are in our late twenties and are very accustomed to staying in beach towns in simple rooms. But this was a dump. I’m not sure if we were given the worst room there or what. The room was so outdated and everything was stained. (See our picture of the chair, for example.) We wore our flip-flops the whole time in the room (stained carpet) and in the shower (very old). The bathroom has pink and blue fixtures, all circa 1970, with some cracks in the tile. We fiddled with it forever and couldn’t get any hot water in the shower—really frustrating. (There’s no tub FYI, not that you’d want to use it.) Basically every piece of furniture needed to be replaced. The carpet also needed replacing (stained, some rips) and there’s no molding at the bottom of the walls to cover the edges of the carpet, so it looks cheap and unfinished. The beds were horrible—only full-sized and very, very old (stained, caved-in box spring); my husband woke up one morning at 5:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. The room had a mini-fridge and TV; no coffeepot or clock. Pros: The location was good (5–10 min walk to beach) and it looks nice from the curb. The pool looked small but clean (we didn’t go in). The sheets were clean and the room did not smell funky. The AC was off when we came in so the room was very hot; however, the room was really small and the AC was newish, so it cooled down quickly. All in all, the room had a dungeon-like atmosphere (AC takes up one window) and is in need of a full gut renovation. If I had a child I think I would’ve turned right around and walked out. Since it’s just us, we made the most of it, but it kind of turned us off to the whole NJ shore. For the money, I’d much rather stay one night at a better hotel than two nights here. We were very disappointed.

“Really awful experience”

I took my seven kids to Ocean City for a couple of day....we checked in at the Trade Winds and it was awful. The first room that the owner gave us keys for way dingy, really small, paint/plaster was chipping from around the windows, and it was steaming hot due to the air conditioner being off. We did have reservations, don't you think they would turn the Air Conditioner on in preparation of our arrival?(I would have expected more for $716.00 for 2 nights)
I asked to switch rooms, the owner was very shocked. He also kept watching my kids, ALL day and All night when they returned to the room, they even tried another path so that he would not watch them. Not a good experience, couldn't wait to check out!!!

“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

I will start with the negatives and get them out of the way. 1. room was a little small 2. furnishings a bit outdated. That's it! What a fantastic place to stay. The room was clean, the pool was clean and taken care of, great location and the customer service is out of this world!! Ed was a fabulous host and my family and I can't wait to go back. We are already planning our vacation for next year and there is no doubt where we will be staying...at the Tradewinds Motel!

“Customer service is still important at the Tradewinds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

I called to reserve a room at the Tradewinds and was pleasantly surprised by how nice and accommodating the owner Ed was. In this day and age where everyone gets so caught up with the little things and grumpy too... it was a breath of fresh air (sea air) to have our needs met on an individual basis. We ended up not staying because my brother in law got a chance to come home before he is headed out to Iraq. When we do have another opportunity we will be going to Tradewinds!

Room Tip: call and talk to Ed and Nona they will help you find the best room
