I spent a night here courtesy of Continental after missing a connection due to a 5-hour delay incoming.

I was given an "SPG preferred" room - not sure if it was any different to a regular room. Very roomy - not cramped at all. Bed was good, rest of the furniture & fittings - fine. The bathroom was a touch smallish, but certainly OK.

If you're there during the day, the hotel has a swimming pool (full size) in the lobby. Must be interesting...

While everything was in good condition and clean, one still gets the impression that the hotel has seen better days. There's a free shuttle to and from EWR, which can get crowded (ie you have to wait for a while - I watched a couple fill up and only manged to get on the third one) if there are many people waiting.

Cannot comment on the food - I arrived after restaurants and room service had closed (midnight I believe) and left before breakfast was served. This is a minus, actually - catering to airline pax food should be available 24x7. The nearby Ramada has food until 0200, apparently.

Had a stopover in Newark and chose the Sheraton Newark Airport Hotel, the airport pickup and drop off was great and punctual. Our room was located on the 9th floor looking over the runway; I discovered the windows were not sound proof and when they use this runway at 4am for the 747's and 380's taking off, one after the other. (It was anoying); yes I understand the hotel can't choose runways but they can invest into sound proof glass like ALL other airport hotels.

The shower could have been a little cleaner I discovered hair on the shower walls and the coffee machine was definately not clean.

The lounge was nice and we had good service, drinks and food were priced fairly based on being in NJ / NY on NYE (yep overnight December 31st)

The 2 major issues
1. Upon checkin the guy asked whether we would like a wakeup call; which we said yes too and gave him the time. As 8.45am rolled by... no call; never a call... had we not been up since the crack of dawn with the planes, we would have missed the flight.

2. At 1.30am; I had enough of the party in the next room(or on top - not sure) that was pumping out music so loud I couldn't even sleep, that I called guest services to see if they could quiet the party down a bit.... I called 3 times and guest services did NOTHING. At 2.30am finally I got to sleep; only to be woken at 4am by the planes.

I mentioned this to front desk in the morning and it fell on deaf ears, no-one seem to care.

I have never stayed at a Sheraton before; simply choosing Hilton or Marriot as our preferred brands due to previous experiences; the Sheraton had a chance to wow... and they didn't.
The fact is we travel alot; and stay in all types of accomodation.. what the Sheraton Newark didn't offer was a clean, and well serviced hotel.

This hotel is convenient for stopovers in Newark. Free pick-up and return to the airport is included; on our way out, the shuttle-driver was very helpful, but on our return, the bus driver couldn't be bothered to open the back for people with large suitcases, so we all struggled to load them into the bus. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom sink was cracked, the tile floor loose (In both rooms we stayed in) and the bathtub was very dirty. The guys in the restaurant were extremely helpful and patient with people who arrived just as they were closing, and the food was good. (However, they were closing at 11 pm, although the hotel directory said they were open until 1). The halls, elevator and other public areas could have used, at least, a serious vacuuming.

The good location is about the best we can suggest about
our stay at this hotel. The room had a stale unpleasant smell upon entering. The bathroom shower was in ill-repair and the overall impression of the room was wellworn and tired. Dirt was noticable
almost everywhere on the floor edges and windows. Paint and wall paper was well-pealed back behind the curtains. The room needed service attention over a period of time and was not getting it.
The front desk was less than helpful.
